Modafinil vs armodafinil in thirty seconds
Modafinil is a mix of two mirror-image forms, called R and S. Armodafinil is just the R form. The R form is cleared from the body more slowly, so armodafinil levels stay higher later in the day. That's why the label dose is lower, 150 to 250 mg, compared with 200 mg for modafinil.

What ArmodaXL is
Afinil says ArmodaXL 150 mg is one of the newer generic versions of Nuvigil, produced by HOF Pharmaceuticals, an Indian manufacturer it describes as working in WHO-GMP facilities. Like ModaXL, Afinil claims tweaks to the inactive ingredients make it kick in faster, with "up to 30% stronger peak effects." We could not find independent data backing that number, so file it under marketing. Afinil also says it keeps for up to 3 years.

Reports for armodafinil in general describe a smoother, longer wakefulness than modafinil, with less of a "peak" and more of a plateau. The flip side is that a late dose can wreck your sleep. Side effects are the same family as modafinil: headache, nausea, dizziness, insomnia and anxiety are the common ones on the Nuvigil label.
Why pick ArmodaXL over Waklert or Artvigil

Watch-outs
- Timing. Because it lasts, take it in the morning. Late doses are the number one complaint.
- Birth control. Like modafinil, armodafinil can make hormonal contraceptives less effective for the whole time you take it and a month after.
- Rash. Any rash means stop and see a doctor. Rare, but serious.
- Legal status. Armodafinil is Schedule IV in the US, same as modafinil. Read the legal notes.
- Don't double up. If 150 mg doesn't do much, the answer is a chat with your doctor, not a second pill at 3pm.
Who it suits
People who found modafinil wore off too soon, or who want one steady dose rather than a peak. Not great for people who are sleep-sensitive or anxious. And, as always, only after checking with a doctor.

Armodafinil's longer tail is the main reason to pick it, or to avoid it. Made-up example: someone who takes 200 mg modafinil at 7am might feel it fading by late afternoon, while 150 mg armodafinil at the same time might still feel noticeable into the early evening. If your days are long and your sleep is robust, that's a perk. If you have trouble falling asleep, it can be a real problem.
