Modactive 200 mg Review: An Honest Look Before You Order

· · Fact-checked October 2026 · How we review

Modactive 200 mg tablet illustration
Each Modactive tablet is labeled 200 mg modafinil

Modactive 200 mg sits in an odd spot on Afinil. It isn't the store's flagship (that's ModaXL), it isn't a famous Indian brand like Modalert, and it isn't one of the bargain tablets either. It's priced like a premium brand while getting a fraction of the attention. If you've seen it in the menu and wondered whether it's worth picking over the names you already know, this review lays out what the listing says, what it gets wrong, and how it compares on cost.

We based this on Afinil's two Modactive listings (the international one and the US domestic USPS one), both checked on October 22, 2026, plus the FDA prescribing information for Provigil, the original brand-name modafinil. We haven't taken Modactive or had it lab tested, and nothing below should be read as if we had. Where Afinil's own wording is wrong or contradictory, we say so.

Modactive at a glance

  • Active drug: modafinil
  • Strength: 200 mg per tablet
  • Sold as: a generic of Provigil
  • Maker named by Afinil: Centurion Laboratories in the description and on the US domestic listing, Roots Lifecare in the international listing's specification table
  • International price range: $39 to $799
  • US domestic price range: $359 to $2,999
  • Customer reviews on the product page: four when we checked

What Modactive is

Modactive is a modafinil tablet made in India for export. Each tablet is labeled as containing 200 mg of modafinil, the same strength as the most common Provigil tablet. Modafinil itself is a wakefulness-promoting drug. In the US, the FDA approved it (as Provigil) to improve wakefulness in adults with excessive sleepiness from narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea, or shift work disorder. Those three conditions are the only FDA-approved uses.

Brands like Modactive exist because Indian manufacturers make their own versions of the molecule and sell them under their own names. Sun Pharma's Modalert, HAB Pharma's Modvigil and Centurion's Modavinil are the better-known examples. Modactive is a quieter member of that group. You'll find far less written about it on forums, and Afinil itself gives it a short page compared with the long write-ups for its best sellers.

That quietness isn't a mark against the tablet. It does mean you have less outside information to lean on, so your own checks on arrival matter more.

The maker question

This is the first thing worth flagging. Afinil's international Modactive page says in its description that Centurion Laboratories manufactures it. Further down the same page, the specification table lists the manufacturer as Roots Lifecare. The separate US domestic listing names Centurion Laboratories in both places.

We can't tell from the outside which is right. It could be a copy-and-paste slip in the table, a contract arrangement where one company makes the tablets for another's brand, or a change of supplier that only one part of the page reflects. What we can say is that a buyer shouldn't take either name as settled until they've seen the packaging.

Why care? The maker is the only real signal you have about a generic's quality when there's no independent testing. If you're choosing Modactive because you trust a particular company, look at the blister strip and the box when your order arrives. The manufacturer's name and a batch number should be printed on them. If what you get doesn't match what you expected, you'll at least know which company you're actually relying on.

If you already like Centurion's products, our Modavinil 200 mg review covers the Centurion modafinil that Afinil sells under its own name, with a longer track record.

What the listing gets wrong

Afinil's Modactive page makes a few claims that don't line up with how modafinil is regulated. They aren't unique to this product (similar wording appears across the store), but they're worth correcting before you order.

"OTC" and "without a prescription." The page title calls the tablets OTC and the text says it's easy to buy Modactive without a prescription. Modafinil isn't an over-the-counter drug in the US. In the US it's a Schedule IV controlled substance. A store's label can't change that.

"99.9% legal and secure." The shipping section says importing prescription-only medicines for personal use is "99.9% legal" in a list of countries that includes the US. That isn't a legal standard anywhere. Importing a controlled or prescription-only drug without a prescription can lead to the parcel being seized, and the rules differ by country. We cover the honest version in the legal section below.

Off-label claims. The description lists a long range of conditions doctors may prescribe it for off-label and calls it a "super-effective brainpower augmenter". Off-label prescribing does happen, but it's a doctor's decision for a specific patient, not a reason to self-treat. The listing's promises about focus, memory and motivation are marketing language rather than findings from the product's own testing.

Labeling parcels as supplements. The shipping text says products are labeled as health supplements. Be aware that a customs declaration that doesn't describe the contents accurately is the store's choice, not a legal shield for the buyer.

None of this tells you the tablets are bad. It tells you to judge the product on what can be checked (price, packaging, maker, your own response under medical advice) rather than the copy around it.

Listed prices (international shipping)

Modactive uses the same ladder as Afinil's premium 200 mg brands at the small end. Here's what the international listing showed on October 22, 2026:

  • 10 tablets: $3.99 each (about $39)
  • 20 tablets: $3.49 each
  • 30 tablets: $2.99 each
  • 50 tablets: $2.39 each
  • 100 tablets: $1.99 each
  • 200 tablets: $1.69 each
  • 300 tablets: $1.66 each
  • 500 tablets: $1.59 each

The listing gives an overall range of $39 to $799. Two things stand out. First, the drop from 10 to 30 tablets is the biggest relative saving on the ladder, a full dollar per tablet. Second, the savings flatten out after 200 tablets: going from 200 to 500 only takes the price down by about ten cents a tablet. For most people, a 500-pack ties up a lot of money for very little extra discount.

Afinil also advertised a 24% discount for paying with crypto. Applied to a 30-tablet pack, that would bring the per-tablet cost down noticeably, though how the discount is applied (to the product, the shipping, or both) is something to check at checkout. Our guide to paying with bitcoin at Afinil walks through how that works.

A worked example

Here's an example to make the ladder concrete. These are illustrative numbers built from the listed prices, not a quote. Say you want roughly two months of supply at one tablet on most days, around 50 tablets.

  • Buying 50 tablets at $2.39 each comes to about $120 before shipping.
  • Buying 30 tablets twice at $2.99 each comes to about $179 for 60 tablets, plus two lots of shipping.
  • Buying 100 tablets at $1.99 each comes to about $199, which crosses the free-shipping thresholds the page mentions.

The 100-pack is the cheapest per tablet of the three, but it only makes sense once you already know the brand suits you. For a first order, the cheap options are really about learning, not saving.

US domestic pricing

Afinil runs a separate Modactive listing that ships within the US by USPS Priority Mail. It's built for buyers who'd rather avoid international parcels, and it's priced very differently. On October 22, 2026, it showed:

  • 60 tablets: $5.99 each ($359)
  • 100 tablets: $4.99 each (marked most popular)
  • 200 tablets: $4.49 each
  • 250 tablets: $3.99 each
  • 300 tablets: $3.66 each
  • 400 tablets: $3.49 each
  • 500 tablets: $3.39 each
  • 750 tablets: $3.33 each
  • 1,000 tablets: $2.99 each ($2,999)

The smallest domestic pack is 60 tablets, so there's no cheap way to trial Modactive with domestic shipping. At 100 tablets, the domestic price per tablet is about two and a half times the international one. The listing quotes 3 to 4 business days in transit after you receive a tracking number, and asks you to allow up to 24 hours for processing plus another 2 to 3 days to ship out, so the total wait is longer than the headline suggests.

Domestic shipping doesn't change the legal position of buying modafinil without a prescription in the US. It changes the route and the speed. Our review of Afinil's domestic USPS shipping covers the option in more detail.

Shipping costs and the free-shipping confusion

The international listing quotes several shipping figures, and they don't all agree:

  • The banner at the top says free express shipping when you spend $180 or more.
  • A note beside the price says all orders over $130 get free shipping.
  • Further down, the text says orders over $80 get free standard shipping to most countries.
  • The fee table lists EMS Express at $49 (free over $180) and Registered Airmail at $39 (free over $130).

The fee table is the most specific, so we'd treat $130 for airmail and $180 for EMS as the working thresholds and expect checkout to have the final word. A 10-tablet Modactive order at about $39 won't reach either, so shipping can roughly double the cost of a small trial. That's worth knowing before you compare "per tablet" numbers between stores.

Other points from the shipping section:

  • Orders placed by 5 pm Pacific time are promised same-day shipping.
  • EMS comes with tracking and a delivery signature; Registered Airmail isn't trackable and needs no signature.
  • Orders over 360 tablets are split into several parcels.

If a parcel doesn't arrive, Afinil says it will reship free of charge. The details and limits are in our write-up of Afinil's reshipment policy. For US delivery details, see our US domestic USPS shipping review.

The free-pills offer

The page carried a "One Day Only! 20 Free Pills with Every Order" banner and, elsewhere, a line saying 20 free modafinil tablets ship with every order. When a "one day only" offer sits next to a standing promise of the same thing, it's fair to treat the urgency as decoration. Don't let it rush a decision. If extra tablets are included, check which brand they are, because a free add-on isn't necessarily Modactive.

How Modactive compares on price

Here's how Modactive's small-pack price lined up against other 200 mg brands on Afinil when we checked. These are listed starting prices for the international listings.

  • Modactive 200 mg: $3.99 per tablet at 10 ($39), down to $1.59 at 500
  • ModaXL 200 mg: also $39 for 10, on the premium ladder that runs to a 1,000-tablet pack
  • Modvigil and Modfil: budget brands starting around $29 for 10

So Modactive doesn't save you anything over ModaXL at the small end, and it costs more than the budget brands. The case for choosing it has to rest on something other than price, such as wanting to try a different maker, or finding that a particular brand suits you better.

For the bigger picture across every brand and pack size, our ModaXL 200 mg review covers the store's house brand, and ModaXL vs Modalert looks at the premium-brand choice directly. If cost is the main driver, ModaXL vs Modvigil for focus weighs a premium tablet against a budget one.

Is Modactive as strong as other brands?

On paper, yes. Every tablet is labeled 200 mg modafinil, the same as ModaXL, Modalert and Modvigil. In practice, the honest answer is that nobody outside the supply chain can confirm what's in a given batch without testing it, and we haven't found an independent lab result for Modactive.

People do report different experiences between brands of the same drug. Some of that may come from differences in fillers, coatings or how quickly the tablet breaks down. Some of it is expectation. A single person comparing two brands on two different days, with different sleep and different meals, isn't a controlled test. If you notice a difference, treat it as a reason to talk to a doctor, not as proof one brand is stronger.

If you're weighing a stronger tablet instead of a different brand, that's a separate decision with real dose implications, and our explainer on modafinil 300 mg vs 200 mg covers what the label says about higher doses.

Dosing on the official label

Modactive's listing gives its own dosing advice, but the authoritative source is the prescribing information for Provigil. Here's what it says, in plain terms. This is general information, not a recommendation for you.

  • The usual dose is 200 mg once a day.
  • For narcolepsy and obstructive sleep apnea, it's taken in the morning.
  • For shift work disorder, it's taken about one hour before the start of the work shift.
  • Doses up to 400 mg a day have been studied, but the label says there's no consistent evidence that the higher dose adds benefit beyond 200 mg.
  • People with severe liver problems should get a reduced dose, and lower doses should be considered for older adults.

The label also notes that modafinil reaches its peak level in the blood about two to four hours after a dose, and that taking it with food can delay that peak by around an hour. Its effective half-life after repeated doses is about 15 hours, which is one reason a dose taken late in the day can interfere with sleep.

Afinil's page adds that the tablets can be taken with or without food and that fatty meals may slow absorption. That's broadly consistent with the label's note about food delaying the peak.

Side effects and safety

Modactive's listing gives a short list of common side effects that matches the kind seen in the Provigil label: headache, nausea, nervousness, a runny or stuffy nose, back pain, diarrhea, indigestion, dizziness and trouble sleeping. Headache was the most common in the label's trials.

The label also carries warnings about rare but serious reactions, including severe skin rashes, allergic reactions and psychiatric symptoms. Anyone who develops a rash, hives, swelling, trouble breathing or chest pain should stop and get medical help straight away. People with heart problems, a history of mental illness, or liver disease need a doctor's input before using it.

Modafinil can also interact with other medicines and can make hormonal birth control less effective during use and for a while after stopping. This page doesn't go into interactions in detail on purpose: that's a conversation for a pharmacist or doctor who knows everything you take. Our medical disclaimer applies to everything here.

Legal notes

Here's the plain version, since the product page muddies it.

  • United States: modafinil is a Schedule IV controlled substance. It's legal with a prescription filled by a licensed pharmacy. Buying it without a prescription isn't a legal route, and imported parcels can be seized.
  • Prescriptions: a Schedule IV prescription has to come from a DEA-registered prescriber, and federal rules allow at most five refills within six months.
  • Customs: CBP can detain or seize parcels that arrive without a prescription, whatever the store's "OTC" label says.

Laws change and enforcement varies, so check the current US rules. The cleanest path is a prescription, and many people can get one through a licensed telehealth service. Our guide to getting a modafinil prescription through an online doctor explains how that works. See our legal notes as well.

Who Modactive suits

Modactive makes sense for a fairly narrow group of buyers:

  • People who want a Centurion tablet other than Modavinil, and who'll check the packaging to confirm the maker.
  • Prescription holders comparing brands who've been told by their doctor that a modafinil 200 mg generic is appropriate and want to try a different tablet.
  • Buyers who need US domestic shipping and are willing to pay its much higher per-tablet price, since Modactive is one of the brands offered that way.

Who should look elsewhere

  • First-time modafinil users are better off starting with a more reviewed brand or with Afinil's free samples, so they're judging the drug rather than an unfamiliar brand.
  • Price-focused buyers will get the same labeled strength for less from the budget brands.
  • Anyone who wants a long track record should pick a brand with more reviews and more written about it.
  • Anyone without a prescription or medical advice should start with a doctor, not a product page.

Checking your order when it arrives

Because the maker question is unsettled, it's worth a few minutes when the parcel lands:

  1. Look at the blister strip and any box for the manufacturer's name. Note whether it says Centurion Laboratories, Roots Lifecare or something else.
  2. Check that the strip says modafinil 200 mg and has a batch number and an expiry date.
  3. Make sure the expiry date is well in the future, especially on a large pack.
  4. Check the strips aren't damaged, crushed or opened.
  5. If anything's off, contact the store before using the tablets, and keep photos.

If the packaging names a different company than you expected, that's not automatically a problem, but it's useful to know which maker you're actually buying from next time.

The number of reviews

Modactive's page showed four customer reviews when we checked. Afinil says its reviews are verified through Yotpo, a third-party review platform. Even if every one of those reviews is genuine, four is too small a sample to say much about consistency across batches. Compare that with Afinil's best-known brands, which carry many more.

A thin review count doesn't make a product bad. It means you're doing more of the work yourself, which is why we keep coming back to starting small.

Questions to ask before you order

Before committing money, it helps to answer a few questions honestly:

  • Do I have a prescription, or have I spoken to a doctor about whether modafinil is appropriate for me?
  • Why this brand rather than ModaXL, Modalert or a budget tablet at the same strength?
  • Am I buying a pack size I'll actually use before the expiry date?
  • Have I added shipping to the price, and do I understand the delivery time?
  • Do I know what happens if the parcel is seized or lost in my country?

If you can't answer the second question, a better-known brand is probably the safer pick. If you can't answer the first or the last, the product isn't the next step.

Is Afinil a reasonable place to buy it?

Modactive is sold on Afinil, so the store's reliability matters as much as the tablet's. We've looked at that separately in is Afinil a legit modafinil vendor, including its reshipment promises and what it does and doesn't guarantee. If you have store credit from a previous order, how Afinil store credit works explains how it applies at checkout.

Storage

Keep modafinil tablets in their original strip, away from heat and damp, and out of reach of children and pets. Don't move them into unlabeled containers, because that makes it harder to check the batch and expiry later. Throw away tablets past their expiry date in line with your local pharmacy's advice.

Modactive vs Modavinil

Because Afinil links both tablets to Centurion Laboratories, it's natural to ask whether they're the same thing under two names. We can't confirm that. Both are labeled 200 mg modafinil, but the store sells them as separate products with separate pages, and the international Modactive table names a different company altogether. Modavinil has the longer history on the site and more written about it.

If you've used Modavinil and want to know whether Modactive will feel the same, the honest answer is that you'll only find out by trying a small pack, and even then a single comparison isn't reliable. If Modavinil already works for you under a doctor's guidance, there's no strong reason to switch.

Modactive for shift workers

Shift work disorder is one of the conditions the FDA approved modafinil for, and it's the one where timing matters most. The label's guidance is a single dose about an hour before the shift starts. Because the drug stays active for many hours, someone finishing a night shift at 7 am may find it harder to sleep afterwards, which can make the underlying problem worse.

That's why shift workers in particular should work out timing with a doctor rather than copying a schedule from a forum. The brand doesn't change any of this. Modactive is subject to the same timing rules as any other 200 mg modafinil tablet.

What we couldn't verify

To be clear about the limits of this review, here's what we weren't able to confirm:

  • Which company actually manufactures the tablets sold under the Modactive name today.
  • Whether the tablets contain exactly 200 mg of modafinil, since we've found no independent lab test.
  • How the crypto discount and free-shipping thresholds combine at checkout, because the page states them in more than one way.
  • Whether the "20 free pills" are Modactive or another brand.

We'll update this page if any of these become clearer. Until then, treat the listing's claims as the store's claims rather than settled facts.

How long a pack lasts

As an example of planning a first order: at one tablet a day, a 10-tablet pack covers ten days, but many people don't take modafinil every day, so it can stretch further. A 30-tablet pack at one tablet on weekdays only would last about six weeks. These are illustrations, not dosing advice. Your doctor's instructions decide how often you take it, and that, not the discount, should decide which pack you buy.

Check the expiry date against how long a pack will realistically take you to use. A cheap per-tablet price on a 300-pack isn't a saving if a good share of it expires in the drawer.

Paying for your order

Afinil's page lists PayPal, Zelle, cards and crypto as payment options, with crypto carrying the 24% discount. Card and PayPal availability for this kind of product can change, so don't be surprised if checkout offers fewer options than the page suggests. Whatever you use, keep your order confirmation and tracking details until the tablets arrive and you've checked them.

Verdict

Modactive 200 mg is a reasonable tablet on paper: it carries the standard 200 mg modafinil strength and sits on Afinil's premium price ladder. Its weak points are on the information side. The product page names two different manufacturers, uses misleading "OTC" and "99.9% legal" language, and has only a handful of reviews.

It isn't the cheapest option and it isn't the most established. If you have a specific reason to want it, such as trying a different maker or needing US domestic shipping, start with the smallest pack, check the packaging on arrival, and follow medical advice on dosing. If you don't have a reason, ModaXL costs the same at the small end with far more feedback behind it, and the budget brands cost less.

Whatever you choose, the legal and medical basics don't change with the brand name. A prescription and a doctor's guidance are the right starting point, and the tablet comes after that.

FAQ

Who makes Modactive 200 mg?

Afinil's page isn't consistent. Its description and its US domestic listing name Centurion Laboratories, while the specification table on the international listing says Roots Lifecare. Check the strip or box when it arrives.

How much does Modactive cost at Afinil?

On October 22, 2026, the international listing ran from $39 for 10 tablets ($3.99 each) to $1.59 each at 500 tablets, with a stated range of $39 to $799. Prices change, so check the cart.

Is Modactive cheaper than ModaXL?

Not at the small end. Both started at $3.99 per tablet for 10 when we checked. Budget brands such as Modvigil or Modfil started lower.

Can I get Modactive with US domestic shipping?

Yes. Afinil had a separate USPS listing starting at 60 tablets for $359 ($5.99 each), with bigger packs down to $2.99 each at 1,000. It costs far more per pill than the international listing.

Is Modactive FDA approved?

No. The FDA approved modafinil as the brand Provigil and some generics made for the US market. Modactive is an Indian export brand that hasn't been through FDA review.

Is Modactive the same as Provigil?

It's labeled with the same active drug, modafinil, at 200 mg. It isn't the same product, and we know of no independent lab test confirming the content of Modactive tablets.

How is modafinil 200 mg usually taken?

The Provigil label gives 200 mg once a day, in the morning for narcolepsy or sleep apnea, or about an hour before the shift for shift work disorder. A doctor should set your dose.

Do I need a prescription for Modactive?

Modafinil is Schedule IV in the US and needs a valid prescription from a licensed US prescriber. Afinil's "OTC" label and its "without a prescription" wording don't change local law.

How many reviews does Modactive have?

The product page showed four customer reviews when we checked, which is too few to judge batch-to-batch consistency.

What's a sensible first order?

The 10-tablet pack, about $39 before shipping. It's enough to see whether the brand suits you without locking money into a large pack.
