Afinil ModaXL 200 mg Review

ModaXL 200 mg tablet illustration
ModaXL is a 200 mg modafinil generic

ModaXL is the brand Afinil pushes first, so it's the one most people end up asking about. It's a 200 mg modafinil tablet, positioned as a cheaper generic of Provigil, and it's sold mainly through Afinil itself. Let's go through what it is, what's genuinely good about it, and where we'd be careful.

What ModaXL is

Each ModaXL tablet contains 200 mg of modafinil, the same active ingredient and strength as brand-name Provigil's higher tablet. Afinil says it's manufactured in India and sourced directly from the maker, and the other products in the XL family (ModaXL 300, ModaXL 400 and ArmodaXL) are listed as HOF Pharmaceuticals products.

What makes it different from, say, Modalert? On paper, not much. Same molecule, same dose. Afinil claims the manufacturer added "special fillers" that make it act a bit faster, and that it lasts up to 3 years before expiring. We can't verify the speed claim; there's no published head-to-head trial we could find. The shelf-life claim is easy to check yourself: look at the date on the blister when it arrives.

Why people pick it

  • Price on bigger packs. Afinil prices ModaXL lower per pill the more you buy. We don't quote exact prices here because they change, but the pattern is a big gap between small and large packs.
  • It's in stock. House brands tend to be. Popular third-party brands occasionally run out.
  • US domestic option. Afinil lists a ModaXL 200 mg product with domestic US shipping, which can mean days instead of weeks.
  • Samples. New customers can try free samples first.

What it feels like (according to buyers)

We're not going to pretend we ran a clinical trial. What buyers generally describe for 200 mg modafinil, whatever the brand, lines up with the official label: reduced sleepiness, a steadier "awake" feeling, effects lasting many hours. Modafinil's elimination half-life is around 15 hours in adults, which is why taking it late in the day is a bad idea if you want to sleep.

Common complaints with modafinil in general: headache (drink water), reduced appetite, nausea, jitteriness or anxiety, and trouble sleeping. If those hit hard, that's a conversation for your doctor, not a reason to take more.

ModaXL versus Modalert at a glance
How ModaXL stacks up against the best-known generic

ModaXL vs the usual suspects

Modalert (Sun Pharma) is the benchmark generic, Modvigil (HAB Pharma) is the budget favorite. ModaXL sits in the same price band as those or below on bulk orders, with a shorter track record. If you've had good results with Modalert, there's no strong reason to switch except price. If you're starting fresh, ModaXL is a reasonable first try, particularly via the samples. Full breakdowns: ModaXL vs Modalert and ModaXL vs Modvigil.

The honest downsides

  • Less independent history. Modalert has been reviewed for years by thousands of users. ModaXL hasn't.
  • Mostly one seller. If you only find a brand at one vendor, you can't compare prices or quality across shops.
  • No prescription asked. That's convenient but it's also the core legal problem. Modafinil is Schedule IV in the US. See our legal notes.
  • Marketing claims. "Up to 30% stronger" style claims appear across Afinil's XL pages. Treat them as advertising.

Who should skip it

Anyone on hormonal birth control without a backup plan (modafinil reduces its effectiveness), anyone with a history of serious rash on medications, heart rhythm problems, or uncontrolled anxiety, and anyone who hasn't talked to a doctor. That's not us being dramatic; those points come straight from the FDA label. Read our medical disclaimer.

How we'd buy it if we were you

  1. Start with free samples or the smallest pack to check delivery and packaging.
  2. Check the blister: brand name, strength, batch number, expiry.
  3. If you're in the US and in a hurry, look at the domestic USPS listing; read our USPS shipping review first.
  4. Don't stockpile. Big packs are cheaper per pill, but they're also more likely to catch customs' attention.

Label-style dosing for modafinil 200 mg

ModaXL is generic modafinil, so the Provigil label is the reference. For narcolepsy and obstructive sleep apnea, it's 200 mg once a day in the morning. For shift work disorder, it's 200 mg about one hour before the shift starts. Doses above 200 mg haven't shown consistent extra benefit in those studies. People with severe liver problems and older adults may need less. ModaXL 200 is that standard dose in one tablet.

Timing and the "don't take it late" rule

Modafinil's half-life is around 15 hours, which is why the label says morning, or before a shift. Made-up example: a 7am dose may still be partly active at bedtime, and a noon dose much more so. If sleep matters to you, and it should, early is the rule.

Pack sizes and price per pill

Afinil sells ModaXL 200 in pack sizes from small trial packs up to bulk. The bigger the pack, the lower the price per pill. Bitcoin payment adds a big discount, which Afinil lists at 24% off. Made-up example: if a pack costs $100 on card, paying in BTC at 24% off would bring it to $76, before shipping. Shipping is $49 for EMS, free on orders over $180, or $39 for Registered Airmail, free over $130. Check the live cart before buying, because prices change. See paying with Bitcoin.

Stronger ModaXL options

If 200 mg doesn't feel like enough, Afinil also lists Extra Strong ModaXL 300 mg and Max Strong ModaXL 400 mg. The label doesn't show extra benefit above 200 mg, and side effects tend to rise with dose. Don't move up without talking to a doctor. Our 300 mg vs 200 mg page goes deeper.

What arrives in the parcel

Afinil ships blister strips in discreet packaging. Tracking usually arrives within 24-72 hours of ordering. Customs typically takes 1-3 days, sometimes up to 7. If the tracking freezes for 15+ business days, Afinil's policy allows a reship. If nothing has arrived after 30 days, or the parcel was seized, you can choose a refund or a reship.

Verdict

ModaXL is a straightforward 200 mg modafinil generic with good pricing on larger packs and a thinner track record than the famous brands. A fair first pick if you go in through the samples, with the usual caveats about legality and a doctor's input.

FAQ

Who makes ModaXL?

Afinil's product page says ModaXL is produced in India; its sister products ModaXL 300 and 400 and ArmodaXL are made by HOF Pharmaceuticals.

Is ModaXL stronger than Modalert?

Both contain 200 mg of modafinil. Afinil claims ModaXL kicks in a little faster because of its fillers, but we found no independent study proving that. Expect them to feel broadly similar.

How long does ModaXL last on the shelf?

Afinil says ModaXL keeps for up to 3 years before expiry. Always check the date printed on the blister.

Can I try ModaXL before buying?

Afinil offers free modafinil samples to new customers, which can include its house brand depending on stock.

Is ModaXL 200 the same as Modalert 200?

Both are modafinil 200 mg. Modalert is made by Sun Pharma, and ModaXL is Afinil's house brand. Our ModaXL vs Modalert page compares them.

Can I take ModaXL every day?

People prescribed modafinil take it daily. Using it without a prescription is something to raise with a doctor first, especially if you have heart, liver or mental health conditions.

Does ModaXL show up on drug tests?

Standard drug panels don't usually test for modafinil, but specialized tests can. Sports anti-doping rules ban it.

Can I take ModaXL with food?

Yes. Food can delay when it kicks in by about an hour, but it doesn't reduce the overall effect.

What if ModaXL makes me anxious?

Stop, cut out caffeine, and talk to a doctor. Anxiety is a known side effect.

How should I store ModaXL?

Keep it at room temperature in the blister, away from moisture and kids.
