ArmodaXL vs Armodavinil: Same Drug, Same Price, So What's Different?

· · Fact-checked October 2026 · How we review

ArmodaXL vs Armodavinil side by side
ArmodaXL and Armodavinil at Afinil, as listed on October 25, 2026

If you've narrowed your armodafinil search down to ArmodaXL and Armodavinil, you've picked two brands that look almost identical on Afinil's store. Same strength, same active drug, same price ladder, both made in India. So the decision comes down to smaller things: who makes them, how much proof sits behind their marketing, how many buyers have reviewed them, and which combo pack you might want later.

We compared both product pages on Afinil on October 25, 2026, and checked the claims against the FDA-approved label for Nuvigil, the US brand-name armodafinil. We haven't bought or tested either brand, and this isn't medical advice.

We earn a commission when you buy through our Afinil links, at no extra cost to you. We get paid the same whichever of these two you choose.

The short answer

  • Same drug, same dose. Both are 150 mg armodafinil tablets, which is the strength the Nuvigil label uses as its standard dose.
  • Same price. Afinil listed both from $39 for 10 tablets to $1,099 for 1,000 when we checked.
  • Different makers. ArmodaXL comes from HOF Pharmaceuticals and is sold as Afinil's in-house brand. Armodavinil comes from Centurion Laboratories.
  • More feedback on ArmodaXL. It had 23 store reviews against Armodavinil's 5.
  • Shakier claims on Armodavinil's page. Its duration figure and "replacing Waklert" story don't hold up, though that's a problem with the listing copy, not proof of a problem with the tablet.

If you want the more established of the two at Afinil, ArmodaXL is the easier pick. If you already like Centurion's Modavinil and want the matching armodafinil, Armodavinil makes sense. Neither is a reason to skip the prescription question, which we cover below.

What each brand is

ArmodaXL 150 mg

Afinil describes ArmodaXL as its "newly developed generic version of Nuvigil" and "an in-house brand", made for it by HOF Pharmaceuticals in India. It sits alongside ModaXL, the modafinil brand Afinil also sells under its own name. The page leans hard on packaging: it mentions "all-improved aluminum packaging" said to keep tablets for up to three years, and a "U.S.P. label" on the box. Our full ArmodaXL 150 mg review goes through the listing in more detail.

Armodavinil 150 mg

Armodavinil is Centurion Laboratories' armodafinil 150 mg, the partner to the same company's Modavinil (modafinil 200 mg). Afinil's page frames it as one of the newer Nuvigil generics and puts it in a Modavinil/Armodavinil "Premium Pack". You'll find our longer take in the Armodavinil 150 mg review, and the modafinil side is in our Modavinil 200 mg review.

Prices side by side

Here's the per-tablet ladder Afinil showed for both brands on October 25, 2026. It was identical for both, so one table covers them. Prices exclude shipping and any coupon, and they can change.

Pack sizePer tablet (both brands)Approx. pack price
10 tablets$3.99$39
20 tablets$3.49about $70
30 tablets$2.99about $90
50 tablets$2.39about $120
100 tablets$1.99about $199
200 tablets$1.69about $338
300 tablets$1.66about $498
500 tablets$1.59about $795
1,000 tablets$1.09$1,099

The "about" figures are our own multiplication of the per-tablet price, so the cart may round differently.

One oddity: further down the ArmodaXL page, the copy says pricing "starts at $1.69 per pill for 100 pills" and can drop to "$0.89 per tab" at 500. Neither matches the dropdown above it, which showed $1.99 at 100 and $1.59 at 500. Go by the price the cart shows you, not by figures in the description.

Both brands sit in Afinil's higher price band for armodafinil. If price per tablet is your main concern, cheaper 150 mg brands such as Artvigil are listed lower; our armodafinil 150 mg price guide lines them all up.

The claims, checked

This is where the two pages differ most, and where buyers tend to get misled.

ArmodaXL: "30% stronger peak effect" and "5% higher absorption"

ArmodaXL's page says it has "a 30% stronger peak effect and a 5% higher absorption rate" than Waklert, thanks to tweaks to its inactive ingredients. We couldn't find any published study, test report or data sheet behind those figures. Both tablets contain the same 150 mg of the same drug. Absent real data, we'd treat the numbers as marketing, not as a reason to expect a different experience.

The "U.S.P. label" line deserves care too. USP is a set of US quality standards for medicines. A label mentioning it doesn't make an imported tablet FDA approved, and we have no independent test confirming the tablets meet the standard.

Armodavinil: "about 71.5 hours"

Armodavinil's FAQ says its effects "can last for about 71.5 hours (close to 3 days), as it has a half-life of about 13 hours." The FDA's Nuvigil label gives armodafinil a half-life of about 15 hours, and in practice people describe the effect lasting a long working day, not three days. A half-life is how long it takes for blood levels to halve; it isn't how long you'll feel awake. Our guide on how long armodafinil lasts explains the difference.

Armodavinil: "to replace Waklert"

The same page says Centurion made Armodavinil "to replace Waklert, which will no longer be available in the USA and other countries due to legal issues", and that Modavinil replaces Modalert for the same reason. We couldn't confirm that story, and Afinil itself still listed Waklert and Modalert for sale when we checked. Waklert has never been an FDA-approved product in the US in the first place, so "no longer available in the USA" doesn't really describe anything that changed.

Claims both pages make

Both listings are sold under the "generic version of Nuvigil" banner, and Afinil's store-wide copy says US buyers are "not breaking the law buying modafinil online". That isn't accurate for the US without a prescription. Neither product is FDA approved.

How to choose between ArmodaXL and Armodavinil
A simple order of questions for choosing a 150 mg armodafinil brand

What actually matters when you choose

Once you strip the marketing out, these are the real differences.

1. The maker and the track record you can see

HOF Pharmaceuticals and Centurion Laboratories are both Indian manufacturers, and Afinil's pages describe both in favorable terms. We couldn't independently verify either company's inspection history, so we're not ranking them on quality. What you can see is store feedback: ArmodaXL had 23 reviews at 4.9 out of 5, Armodavinil had 5 at 4.8. Both are small numbers, and reviews on a seller's own site are never a lab test, but more feedback is slightly more reassuring than less.

2. Which modafinil brand you'd pair it with

Some people keep modafinil for ordinary days and armodafinil for long ones. If that's you, the combo packs matter:

  • ModaXL/ArmodaXL Superior Combo Pack: listed at $199 to $4,999. Our Superior pack review runs the numbers.
  • Modavinil/Armodavinil Premium Pack (Centurion): also listed at $199 to $4,999.

Pick the pack built around the modafinil brand you'd actually use. If you already know you like ModaXL, ArmodaXL is the natural partner, and vice versa for Modavinil.

3. How you'd want it shipped

Both brands use the same Afinil shipping options. On the day we checked, the shipping section listed:

  • registered airmail at $39, free on orders over $130, with no tracking and 10 to 18 business days;
  • EMS express at $49, free on orders over $180, tracked, 7 to 12 business days, signature needed;
  • a US-to-US domestic USPS option at 3 to 4 days, with its own pricing and free over $350.

ArmodaXL's page specifically mentions the US domestic option. Whether a given brand is in domestic stock on a given day is something to check in the cart. Our review of Afinil's domestic USPS shipping explains how that route works.

4. Payment

Afinil's pages listed cards, PayPal, Zelle and several bank transfer methods, plus a 24% discount for paying with Bitcoin. That discount applies to both brands equally, so it doesn't tip the choice. If you're thinking about the crypto route, read our guide to paying Afinil with Bitcoin first, since crypto payments are hard to reverse.

How the two compare with the rest of Afinil's armodafinil

ArmodaXL and Armodavinil share the top price band at Afinil with Waklert. HAB Pharma's Artvigil and Afinil's own "Nuvigil Generic" sit in a cheaper band, from $29 for 10 tablets. If you're choosing within the top band, our ArmodaXL vs Waklert comparison covers the other matchup, and Artvigil vs Waklert covers the budget alternative. For a ranking across the whole store, see our pick of the best version of modafinil.

Dosing: identical, because the drug is identical

Since both tablets contain 150 mg of armodafinil, the FDA's Nuvigil label applies equally to both:

  • Sleep apnea or narcolepsy: 150 to 250 mg once a day in the morning. In sleep apnea, the label notes no consistent extra benefit above 150 mg.
  • Shift work disorder: 150 mg about one hour before the shift starts.
  • Timing and food: blood levels peak about 2 hours after a dose on an empty stomach; food can delay that by 2 to 4 hours.
  • Half-life: about 15 hours, so a late dose can keep you awake into the night.

There's no reason to switch doses when moving between ArmodaXL and Armodavinil, and no reason to take both. Any change to your dose belongs with your prescriber.

Side effects and safety

The label's most common side effects are headache, nausea, dizziness and trouble sleeping. Stop and get urgent help for any rash, blisters, mouth sores, swelling of the face or throat, chest pain, or sudden changes in mood, as these can signal rare but serious reactions. Armodafinil can make hormonal birth control less effective during use and for a month after stopping. Tell your doctor and pharmacist about every medicine you take. More in our medical disclaimer.

Imported tablets add one more layer of uncertainty: there's no US regulator checking these specific batches. That's true of both brands equally.

The legal part

Armodafinil is a Schedule IV controlled substance in the US. Buying it with a prescription from a licensed pharmacy is legal, and FDA-approved generic armodafinil is widely available that way. Ordering ArmodaXL or Armodavinil from an overseas vendor without a prescription isn't a legal route, even though Afinil's store copy suggests otherwise, and customs can seize the parcel. If you don't have a prescriber, our guide to getting a prescription through an online doctor is a sensible place to start. Our legal notes cover the US rules.

Our pick

Choose ArmodaXL if you want the brand with more buyer feedback at Afinil, you like or plan to try ModaXL, or you want the brand Afinil itself puts its name behind.

Choose Armodavinil if you already use Centurion's Modavinil and want the matching armodafinil, or you'd simply like to try a second maker's tablet at the same price.

Choose neither if price per tablet matters most (Artvigil and the Nuvigil Generic are cheaper), you want an FDA-approved product, or you haven't yet spoken to a prescriber about armodafinil.

A made-up example: someone who usually takes ModaXL and wants a 30-day supply of 150 mg armodafinil for long shifts would likely find ArmodaXL simpler, because the Superior pack and the reviews they've already read all point the same way. Someone who has been happy with Modavinil would reasonably go the other way. Neither choice changes the dose or the drug.

Bottom line

ArmodaXL and Armodavinil are the same 150 mg of armodafinil at the same Afinil price, from two different Indian makers. ArmodaXL has more store reviews and the backing of Afinil's in-house line; Armodavinil pairs with Centurion's Modavinil. Ignore the "30% stronger", "71.5 hours" and "replacing Waklert" claims, since none of them is backed by evidence we could find. Base your choice on the maker you trust and the pack you'd actually use, start small, and keep a prescriber involved, because in the US armodafinil is a prescription drug either way.

FAQ

Is ArmodaXL stronger than Armodavinil?

Not on paper. Both are listed as 150 mg armodafinil tablets. ArmodaXL's page claims a stronger peak and better absorption than Waklert, but we found no published data behind it, so treat the two as the same dose of the same drug.

Who makes ArmodaXL and Armodavinil?

Afinil's product tables list HOF Pharmaceuticals for ArmodaXL, which Afinil calls its in-house brand, and Centurion Laboratories for Armodavinil. Both makers are in India.

Which is cheaper, ArmodaXL or Armodavinil?

Neither. On October 25, 2026 Afinil listed both at the same prices, from $39 for 10 tablets to $1,099 for 1,000. Waklert-band brands like Artvigil cost less per tablet.

Did Armodavinil replace Waklert?

Afinil's Armodavinil page says so, but Afinil still listed Waklert for sale when we checked. We couldn't verify the "legal issues" story, so we wouldn't base a decision on it.

How long does Armodavinil last?

The FDA's Nuvigil label puts armodafinil's half-life at about 15 hours, and effects usually last most of a day. Afinil's Armodavinil page says effects can last "about 71.5 hours", which doesn't match the label and isn't realistic.

Are ArmodaXL or Armodavinil FDA approved?

No. They're export generics made in India. The FDA-approved options in the US are brand Nuvigil and US generic armodafinil, both prescription only.

Can I take ArmodaXL and Armodavinil together?

Don't double up. Both are full 150 mg doses of the same drug, so taking both means a higher armodafinil dose than the label's usual range. Any dose change is a question for your prescriber.

Is it legal to buy them in the US?

Armodafinil is Schedule IV in the US, so a prescription is needed. Importing either brand without one isn't a legal route, and customs can seize parcels.
