Modapro 200 mg Review: A Budget Modafinil, Fact-Checked
Modapro isn't one of the famous modafinil names like Modalert or Modvigil, which is exactly why people search for reviews before ordering. This review covers what Modapro 200 mg is, who makes it according to the seller, what it cost at Afinil on October 22, 2026, how it compares with other 200 mg options there, and which parts of the product listing hold up when checked against the US prescribing information for Provigil. We haven't run lab tests or tried the tablets, and we don't pretend otherwise. This isn't medical advice.

Who makes Modapro?
Afinil names Cipla Limited as the manufacturer. Cipla is a well-known Indian drug company that makes a wide range of generic medicines for many markets. That's a reassuring name to see on a listing, but two caveats apply:
- We didn't confirm with Cipla that it currently makes or supplies Modapro.
- Even a reputable maker's export product isn't checked by the FDA unless it's been approved for the US market. Modapro hasn't been.
When a strip arrives, check that the maker name, product name and strength printed on the foil match the listing.
Price at Afinil (checked October 22, 2026)
| Pack size | Price per tablet | Approx. pack total |
|---|---|---|
| 10 tablets | $2.99 | $29.90 |
| 20 tablets | $2.99 | $59.80 |
| 30 tablets | $2.59 | $77.70 |
| 50 tablets | $1.99 | $99.50 |
| 100 tablets | $1.69 | $169.00 |
| 200 tablets | $1.39 | $278.00 |
| 300 tablets | $1.33 | $399.00 |
| 500 tablets | $0.99 | $495.00 |
The listing also showed a price range of $29 to $499, so pack totals may be rounded slightly differently at checkout. Note that the 20-pack costs the same per tablet as the 10-pack, so it doesn't save anything per tablet. The first real drop comes at 30 tablets.
Afinil's listing also mentioned free shipping on orders over $130 and free express shipping over $180, same-day shipping for orders placed by 5 PM Pacific, payment by card, PayPal or Bitcoin, and a 30-day guarantee. Offers change, so read the terms on the live page.
Example monthly cost (illustration only)
At one tablet a day for 30 days, using Afinil's listed prices:
- buying a 30-pack: 30 × $2.59 = about $77.70
- one month's share of a 100-pack: 30 × $1.69 = about $50.70
- one month's share of a 500-pack: 30 × $0.99 = about $29.70
That's example math, not a dosing recommendation, and it leaves out shipping on smaller orders. A 500-pack only saves money if you'll use the tablets before the expiry date printed on the strips.
How Modapro compares with other 200 mg options
| Product (maker per Afinil) | 10-pack, per tablet | 100-pack, per tablet | Largest pack, per tablet |
|---|---|---|---|
| Modapro 200 mg (Cipla) | $2.99 | $1.69 | $0.99 (500) |
| Provake 200 mg (Ranbaxy) | $2.99 | $1.69 | $0.99 (500) |
| ModaXL 200 mg (HOF Pharmaceuticals) | $3.99 | $1.99 | $1.09 (1,000) |
Prices were checked on October 22, 2026.
A few observations:
- Modapro and Provake were priced identically at every pack size. If you're choosing between them, the maker name you trust more is a fair tiebreaker.
- ModaXL costs more in small and mid-size packs but offers a 1,000-tablet pack. We've reviewed it in our ModaXL 200 mg review.
- Better-known brands like Modalert and Modvigil have more user reports behind them. See our Modvigil vs Modalert comparison and ModaXL vs Modalert.
Every product in this table lists the same active ingredient at the same strength. None of them is FDA-approved, and none has published data comparing it directly with Provigil.
What the Afinil listing claims, checked
Product descriptions on seller sites are marketing, so we compared Modapro's listing with the US Provigil label.
| Listing claim | What we found |
|---|---|
| A generic version of Provigil, approved by the FDA in 1998 | Provigil was approved in 1998. Modapro itself isn't FDA-approved. |
| Works by regulating GABA, serotonin and dopamine | The Provigil label says the way modafinil promotes wakefulness is unknown, though it binds the dopamine transporter. |
| Take one tablet in the morning, or one hour before a shift | Matches the US label's 200 mg dosing. |
| The daily dose can be split between morning and noon | That isn't in the US label. Follow your prescriber. |
| Available "without a prescription" / "OTC" | Not true in the US. Modafinil is Schedule IV and needs a prescription. |
| Same effectiveness as Provigil | There's no FDA data on Modapro to support or rule this out. |
The listing's side effect section is broadly in line with the label's common side effects, such as headache, nausea, dizziness and insomnia, but the label is the better source.
What the US label says about modafinil 200 mg
Since Modapro is sold as 200 mg modafinil, the Provigil label is the best guide to what that dose is designed to do:
- Approved uses: excessive sleepiness from narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea (alongside treatment of the underlying condition) and shift work disorder.
- Dose: 200 mg once a day, in the morning, or about one hour before the shift for shift work disorder.
- Higher doses: the label notes doses up to 400 mg a day were well tolerated, but there's no consistent evidence they work better than 200 mg.
- Timing: peak blood levels arrive 2 to 4 hours after a dose, and the half-life is about 15 hours, so a dose taken late in the day can disturb sleep.
- Common side effects: headache was the most common in trials, followed by nausea, nervousness, rhinitis, back pain, diarrhea, anxiety, insomnia, dizziness and indigestion.
- Serious warnings: rare but serious rash and allergic reactions, and psychiatric symptoms. Stop and seek medical help for any rash, swelling or trouble breathing.
What we couldn't verify
Being clear about gaps is part of a fair review:
- We haven't tested Modapro tablets for content or purity.
- We couldn't confirm with Cipla that Modapro is a current Cipla product.
- With just two reviews on the listing, there isn't enough user feedback to judge consistency between batches.
- We don't know how long Afinil's current Modapro stock has left before its expiry date, so check the strips rather than assuming a fresh batch.
- We couldn't find independent testing of Modapro published by a lab or a regulator, so any claim about its purity or strength rests on the label printed on the foil.
If those gaps bother you, a better-documented brand or a US prescription filled at a pharmacy is the safer choice.
Checking a Modapro order when it arrives
- Foil printing: product name, "200 mg," maker and batch number should be clear and consistent across strips.
- Expiry date: check every strip, especially in big packs.
- Tablet condition: no cracks, crumbling or discoloration.
- Quantity: count strips against your order.
If anything doesn't match, contact the seller before taking a tablet. Our Afinil reshipment policy guide explains what to expect if an order goes wrong, and our review of whether Afinil is legit covers the seller more broadly.
Who Modapro suits, and who should skip it
It may suit you if:
- you have a prescription and your doctor is comfortable with you using an imported generic
- you want a low per-tablet price in packs of 100 or more
- you'd rather see a large, known manufacturer's name on the listing
You might skip it if:
- you want an FDA-approved product; a US generic filled at a pharmacy is that
- you prefer brands with lots of user reports
- you want a small trial before committing; consider Afinil's free samples first
- you're not in a position to use a big pack before it expires
Modapro vs a US generic prescription
It's worth comparing Modapro with the legal US route, because the gap is smaller than many buyers expect. The CMS National Average Drug Acquisition Cost (NADAC) survey, which tracks what US pharmacies pay to buy drugs, put generic modafinil 200 mg at about $0.35 a tablet in October 2026. That's the pharmacy's cost, not your cash price, and pharmacies add a dispensing fee and markup. Even so, it means a fairly priced US fill of generic modafinil can cost about the same as, or less than, Modapro's cheapest bulk price.
| Modapro 200 mg (Afinil) | US generic modafinil 200 mg | |
|---|---|---|
| Price reference | $0.99 to $2.99 a tablet | about $0.35 a tablet pharmacy cost, plus fees |
| FDA-approved | No | Yes |
| Prescription | Required by US law | Required |
| Shipping wait | International shipping | Same day at a pharmacy |
| Batch checks | Not checked by US regulators | FDA manufacturing rules apply |
The US generic wins on oversight and, often, on price. Modapro's appeal is mostly convenience for people who already order from Afinil.
Questions worth asking your doctor
If you're considering any modafinil product, these questions make the conversation more useful:
- Is modafinil the right medicine for the sleepiness I'm having, or should the cause be looked at first?
- Is 200 mg the right dose for me, and when should I take it?
- Are any of my other medicines, including birth control, a concern? (The Provigil label notes modafinil can make hormonal birth control less effective.)
- What side effects should make me stop and call you?
- Would you be comfortable with me using an imported generic, or should I fill a US prescription?
A cautious way to start
If you and your prescriber decide an imported generic is acceptable, start small. A 30-tablet pack costs more per tablet than bulk, but it lets you check the packaging, the delivery time and how well you tolerate it before you commit to hundreds of tablets. Keep notes on timing and sleep in the first couple of weeks so you have something concrete to discuss at your next appointment.
Storage
Keep Modapro in its blister strips at room temperature, away from moisture and out of reach of children. The US Provigil label gives 68 to 77°F (20 to 25°C) for storage. Don't use tablets past the expiry date on the strip.
Safety notes
Modafinil isn't right for everyone. Talk to a doctor about your health history before starting, especially if you have heart, liver or mental health conditions, and don't take more than prescribed. Read our medical disclaimer.
Buying Modapro in the US
In the US, modafinil is a Schedule IV controlled substance. It's legal to buy with a valid prescription from a licensed pharmacy. Ordering an imported brand like Modapro without a prescription can break federal and state law, and customs can seize the package. Our legal notes explain the risks, and our guide to getting a prescription from an online doctor covers the legal route.
Verdict
Modapro 200 mg is a low-priced modafinil tablet that Afinil lists as made by Cipla. On price, it matched Provake and undercut ModaXL in packs up to 300, and at $0.99 a tablet in 500-packs it was among the cheapest 200 mg options we saw. The weak spots are the thin review history, listing claims that don't match US law or the label, and the lack of any FDA review. If you go ahead, do it with a prescription, start with a pack you'll actually finish, and check the strips when they arrive.
