Where to Buy Modalert 200 mg (and What to Check First)
Modalert 200 mg, made by Sun Pharma in India, is probably the most widely recognized modafinil brand sold online. It's also not something you can pick up at a US pharmacy. So "where do I buy Modalert?" usually becomes "which online seller can I trust, and what are the risks?" This page answers both, starting with the legal picture, because it shapes every other choice.
We've used Afinil's Modalert product page and shipping information (checked October 22, 2026) and the FDA label for Provigil, the brand-name modafinil. We haven't tested any vendor's tablets ourselves.
First, what Modalert is
- Active drug: modafinil, 200 mg per tablet.
- Maker: Sun Pharma, one of India's largest drug companies.
- Copies: Provigil, the original US brand.
- Approved for (as modafinil): excessive sleepiness from narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea and shift work disorder.
Modalert is made for markets outside the US. It isn't an FDA-approved product, even though its active ingredient is the same as an approved one.
The legal routes
With a prescription
In the US, the legal way to get modafinil is a prescription from a licensed clinician, filled at a licensed pharmacy. You won't get the Modalert brand that way; you'll get brand Provigil or a US-approved generic. That's the route we'd point most people to, especially anyone with real daytime sleepiness, which can be a sign of sleep apnea or another condition worth treating properly. Our guide to an online doctor for a modafinil prescription explains how that works.
A prescription also has practical perks in the US. Because modafinil is Schedule IV under federal law, a prescription can be refilled up to five times within six months of the date it was written. Generic modafinil is FDA-approved for narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea and shift work disorder, and many insurance plans cover it for those conditions, sometimes after a prior authorization.
Without a prescription
Many people instead order Indian generics like Modalert from overseas vendors. That's the reality of the market, but it's worth being honest: in the US, modafinil is a Schedule IV controlled substance, and buying or importing it without a prescription isn't legal. Customs can seize parcels. Vendors that label modafinil "OTC", as Afinil does, are describing their sales approach, not the law where you live. See our legal notes for more.
Where Modalert is sold online
Broadly, there are three kinds of places:
- Dedicated modafinil vendors. These stores specialize in Indian modafinil and armodafinil brands, ship internationally and usually publish shipping tables, reship policies and support contacts. Afinil is one example.
- General "online pharmacies". Some carry Modalert among hundreds of other drugs. Quality and transparency vary widely.
- Marketplaces and social media sellers. Listings on general marketplaces, forums or messaging apps are where fakes and scams are most common. We'd avoid them.
How to choose a vendor
There's no perfect way to verify an overseas seller, but you can stack the odds in your favor. Look for:
- Clear product details. The listing should name the maker (Sun Pharma), the strength (200 mg) and the pack options.
- Published shipping options and times, with tracking available.
- A written reship or refund policy you can read before paying.
- Real support channels, such as a help center or contact form, and answers to pre-sale questions.
- Small packs. A seller that only offers huge quantities is asking you to take all the risk up front.
- Consistent pricing. Prices far below every other seller can be a warning sign.
And be wary of:
- Countdown timers and "one day only" pop-ups. These are sales pressure, not information. (Afinil's site uses some of these too; ignore them and buy on your own schedule.)
- Health claims that sound too good, such as "no side effects" or "not addictive at all".
- Payment requests outside the checkout, such as a seller emailing new bank details.
Modalert at Afinil: the details
Since Afinil is the store we link to, here's what its Modalert listing showed on October 22, 2026.
Price
Afinil listed Modalert from $39 to $1,099. The per-tablet price fell with pack size: $3.99 at 10, $3.49 at 20, $2.99 at 30, $2.39 at 50, $1.99 at 100, $1.69 at 200, $1.66 at 300, $1.59 at 500 and $1.09 at 1,000. Paying in crypto took 24% off at the time; our bitcoin payment guide covers how it works.
Shipping
The cheapest international option on Afinil's table was untracked registered airmail: $39, waived once an order passes $130, with a quoted 10 to 18 business days. Paying for EMS adds tracking and cuts the quote to 7 to 12 business days. Inside the US, Afinil offers domestic USPS delivery at special prices (shipping becomes free above $350), with a 3 to 4 day estimate. In other words, speed costs real money, and for many buyers the slow option is fine.
Afinil says orders placed by 5 PM PST ship the same day and arrive in discreet packaging. For US delivery details, see our US domestic USPS shipping review.
Payment
Afinil's footer listed Visa, MasterCard, Amex, PayPal and Zelle, along with crypto. Card options at stores like this can change, so check at checkout.
Policies
Afinil advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee and a reship policy for lost parcels. Read the current terms in our explainer on Afinil's reshipment policy before ordering. For a broader view of the store, see is Afinil a legit modafinil vendor?
The supply notice
Afinil's Modalert page opens with a warning: within a few months, it says, Sun Pharma will no longer let Modalert and Waklert leave India, due to legal issues. It recommends ModaXL and ArmodaXL instead, then adds that every brand can still be ordered. No date is given, and we have no independent confirmation either way.
Our advice: don't let a notice like this push you into a big order. If supply does dry up, other 200 mg modafinil brands contain the same drug at the same dose.
How to check your Modalert when it arrives
Real or fake is the question most Modalert buyers worry about. Here's what you can actually check:
- The strip. It should say Modalert 200 and name Sun Pharma. Print should be clean and evenly aligned.
- Batch and expiry. Both should be printed on the strip. The expiry should be well in the future.
- The tablets. Uniform size, color and shape, with no crumbling.
- Quantity. Count the strips against your order.
- Photos. Compare with the product images, allowing for packaging updates.
Some websites, including Afinil's, suggest that a change in urine smell shows a tablet is genuine. That's not a reliable test, and we wouldn't rely on it. If anything looks wrong, don't take the tablets; contact the store and keep photos.
Modalert dosing on the label
The Provigil label, which covers the same drug, recommends:
- Narcolepsy or obstructive sleep apnea: 200 mg once a day in the morning.
- Shift work disorder: 200 mg about an hour before the shift.
Higher doses haven't shown consistent extra benefit. Modafinil is long-acting (an effective half-life of about 15 hours with repeated doses), so a late dose can cost you a night's sleep. Our 300 mg vs 200 mg guide explains why more isn't usually better.
Side effects in brief
Headache is the side effect reported most often on the Provigil label. Nausea, nervousness, a runny nose, back pain, diarrhea, anxiety, poor sleep, dizziness and indigestion follow. The rarer but serious warnings cover skin rashes (stop and call a doctor at the first sign), allergic reactions, mental health changes and chest pain or palpitations. Hormonal contraception can be weakened while taking modafinil and for a month after. A doctor or pharmacist should check it against any other medicines you take. Our medical disclaimer applies.
Alternatives to Modalert
If you can't find Modalert, or would rather not depend on a brand with a supply question hanging over it:
- ModaXL 200 mg: Afinil's house brand at the same listed ladder. See our ModaXL 200 mg review and ModaXL vs Modalert.
- Modvigil 200 mg: a budget brand from HAB Pharma. See Modvigil vs Modalert.
- Modafil MD 200 mg: a sublingual tablet by INTAS. See our Modafil MD review.
- Free samples: Afinil offers sample packs of Modvigil and Artvigil; our free samples review has the details.
Questions to ask a vendor before paying
A short pre-sale message tells you a lot. Ask things a careful seller can answer quickly:
- "Which maker's Modalert do you ship, and from where?"
- "What happens if my parcel is held at customs in my country?"
- "Is tracking included with this shipping option?"
- "How long is the expiry on your current stock?"
Vague, evasive or copy-pasted answers are a warning. A clear reply within a day or so is a good sign, though it doesn't guarantee anything.
What Modalert costs over a month: an example
Here's an illustration only, not advice on how much to take. Someone prescribed 200 mg a day on workdays, would use about 20 tablets a month. At Afinil's listed $3.49 each for a 20-pack, that's about $70 before shipping. Buying 100 at $1.99 each costs about $199, roughly $40 a month over five months, but means paying up front and storing tablets for months. Compare those numbers with what a prescription costs you through insurance, which in some cases is cheaper still.
Buying for travel
Some people look for Modalert before a long trip or a stint of shift work abroad. Carrying modafinil across borders adds another layer of rules: many countries expect a prescription and the medicine in its original packaging, and a few restrict it further. If you need modafinil while traveling, get it prescribed, keep it in the original strips with a copy of the prescription, and check the destination's rules before you go.
A simple buying plan
If, after weighing the legal side and talking to a doctor, you still want to buy Modalert:
- Pick one vendor that meets the checklist above.
- Read its shipping and reship terms for your country.
- Order a small pack, 10 to 30 tablets.
- Pay for tracking if knowing where the parcel is matters to you.
- Check the strips carefully when they arrive.
- Take one tablet early in the day and note how you feel and sleep.
- Only then think about a bigger pack.
Common mistakes
- Ordering from several sellers at once to "compare". That multiplies cost, customs exposure and confusion.
- Buying a year's supply first time. Plenty of people find modafinil doesn't suit them.
- Trusting forum "vendor lists" blindly. They age quickly and are sometimes run by the vendors themselves.
- Ignoring expiry dates on large packs.
- Assuming "OTC" on a website means legal. It doesn't.
Verdict
You can't buy Modalert at a US pharmacy; the legal US route is a prescription for Provigil or a US-approved generic. People who order Modalert online usually use a dedicated modafinil vendor. If you go that way, choose a seller with clear product details, published shipping and reship terms and real support, ignore countdown pressure, start with a small pack and check the strips when they arrive. Afinil fits those basics, listing Modalert from $3.99 a tablet for 10. Whatever you decide, talk to a doctor first.
FAQ
Can I buy Modalert at a US pharmacy?
No. Modalert is an Indian brand made by Sun Pharma for export, not a US-approved product. US pharmacies dispense brand Provigil or US-approved generic modafinil, with a prescription.
Where do people usually buy Modalert?
Mostly from online vendors that ship Indian generics internationally. Afinil is one; it listed Modalert 200 mg from $39 to $1,099 when we checked on October 22, 2026.
Is it legal to buy Modalert online?
In the US, modafinil is a Schedule IV controlled substance and needs a prescription. Importing it without one isn't legal, and parcels can be seized.
How much does Modalert cost at Afinil?
Afinil's listed price was $3.99 per tablet for 10, $2.99 for 30, $1.99 for 100 and $1.09 for 1,000 when we checked. Prices change; the cart shows the current total.
How long does shipping take?
Afinil quoted 10 to 18 business days for registered airmail and 7 to 12 business days for tracked EMS, with a separate domestic option inside the US.
How can I tell if Modalert is real?
Check the strip for Sun Pharma's name, Modalert 200, a batch number and a future expiry date, and compare it with the product photos. Home "tests" like urine smell, which some sites mention, aren't reliable.
Is Modalert being discontinued?
Afinil's Modalert page says Sun Pharma may stop allowing exports "in the near future", while still selling it. We can't confirm the timing.
What's a good alternative if I can't get Modalert?
Another 200 mg modafinil, such as ModaXL or Modavinil, contains the same drug at the same dose. Afinil itself suggests ModaXL.
Is Amazon or eBay a safe place to buy Modalert?
Prescription drugs like modafinil shouldn't be sold on general marketplaces, and listings that appear there carry the highest risk of fake or mislabeled tablets.
Should I buy a big pack to save money?
Not as a first order. Start with 10 or 20 tablets to see how you respond, then decide.
