Modapro vs Modvigil: Same Price Tag, So What Separates Them?

· · Fact-checked November 2026 · How we review

Modapro versus Modvigil comparison chart
From Afinil's Modapro 200 and Modvigil 200 listings, checked November 1, 2026

Most brand comparisons come down to which one is cheaper. Modapro vs Modvigil doesn't. On Afinil both sit on the store's lowest price ladder for 200 mg modafinil, and the prices match to the cent from a 10-pack to a 500-pack. That's handy, because it lets you compare the things that usually get buried under price: the company behind the tablet, how many buyers have reviewed it, whether you can try it first and what happens if you want a really large pack.

How we checked: on November 1, 2026 we read Afinil's Modapro 200 mg and Modvigil 200 mg product pages and recorded every price tier, the review count and rating, the named manufacturer and the claims on each page. We also looked at the store's sample, combo and shipping listings, and compared drug facts with the US prescribing information for Provigil (modafinil). Nobody on our team has taken either brand, so you won't find first-hand effect reports here. This is a buying comparison, not medical advice.

The short version

  • Same listed drug: modafinil 200 mg per tablet in both, according to Afinil.
  • Makers: Cipla for Modapro, HAB Pharma for Modvigil.
  • Price: identical from 10 to 500 tablets: $2.99 a tablet at 10, $1.69 at 100, $0.99 at 500.
  • Bulk: only Modvigil comes in a 1,000-tablet pack, at $0.89 a tablet.
  • Reviews: 2 for Modapro (4.5 out of 5) and 16 for Modvigil (4.9 out of 5).
  • Extras: Modvigil has a free sample listing and a combo pack with Artvigil. We found neither for Modapro.
  • US status: prescription only, and neither brand is FDA-approved.

Put simply, Modapro offers the bigger company name and Modvigil offers the longer store record plus a few practical extras. Both cost the same, so you're choosing on maker and convenience, not money.

Three things the table shows

  1. No winner on price below 1,000 tablets. Whichever brand you choose, you pay the same.
  2. The 1,000-pack saves ten cents a tablet. Modvigil's $899 pack beats two 500-packs ($998) by $99. That's real money only if you'd genuinely use 1,000 tablets before they expire, which at one a day is nearly three years. Afinil also says orders over 360 tablets ship in several parcels.
  3. This is the store's cheapest ladder. Modfil, Modatec and Mofy showed the same tiers on the same day, while brands such as Modalert, Modawake and Modaheal cost noticeably more. Both Modapro and Modvigil are at the bottom of Afinil's price range for branded 200 mg modafinil.

The product pages also show crossed-out "regular" prices next to these figures. That pattern runs across most Afinil listings, so we wouldn't read it as a limited-time sale.

Shipping thresholds work the same for both

Because the prices match, the shipping maths does too. Untracked Registered Airmail ($39) is free over $130, and tracked EMS ($49) is free over $180. A 100-pack at $169 clears the airmail line but not the EMS one, so a tracked 100-pack costs $218 for either brand unless you add something to the order. From 200 tablets ($279) both thresholds are cleared. Afinil's US domestic USPS service has its own pricing and is free over $350; our domestic USPS shipping review explains which products it covers.

The makers

Cipla and Modapro

Afinil names Cipla Limited as Modapro's manufacturer. Cipla is one of India's biggest drug companies, publicly listed and well known for generics, including medicines it sells in the US through approved channels. That doesn't make Modapro an FDA-approved product, and it doesn't tell you anything about a particular parcel. It does mean the name on the box belongs to a large company with a long public record, which is more than you can say for some budget brands. Our Modapro 200 mg review covers the brand by itself.

HAB Pharma and Modvigil

Afinil names HAB Pharma, and Indian trade listings name HAB Pharmaceuticals & Research Ltd as the maker. HAB is much smaller than Cipla, but Modvigil is one of the most familiar modafinil brands among online buyers, and Afinil promotes it heavily, calling it its "bestseller and lowest price generic Modafinil brand" in the site footer. HAB also makes Artvigil (armodafinil) and Modawake. Our guide to where to buy Modvigil looks at the brand across different sellers.

Big company vs long store record

So the trade-off is this. Modapro has the bigger, better-documented manufacturer. Modvigil has the stronger record at this particular store, with 16 reviews against 2. Two reviews tells you almost nothing either way, and store reviews in general are a weak signal, but 16 is at least a handful of buyers who received what they ordered. Neither fact proves anything about what's inside the tablets. Both are reasons you might lean one way.

Extras only Modvigil has

Since price doesn't split them, the side offers are where Modvigil pulls ahead on convenience.

  • A free sample listing. Afinil lists free Modvigil 200 mg and Artvigil 150 mg samples, and a pop-up says every order comes with 20 free sample tablets. The conditions are set by the store and can change, so read them at checkout. A sample lets you look at the strips and packaging before you place a larger order. Our free modafinil samples review explains how the offer works.
  • The 1,000-tablet tier, discussed above.
  • A combo pack. Afinil sells a Modvigil + Artvigil Budget Combo Pack, listed from $169. That's only relevant if a prescriber has you on both modafinil and armodafinil, which is uncommon. Our budget combo pack review covers the details.
  • Review credit. The Modvigil page mentions money off ($30 or $25) for writing a review. The wording is unclear about how it works, so we wouldn't count on it.

We found none of these for Modapro on November 1, 2026. That doesn't make Modapro the weaker tablet. It just means Modvigil has more ways to try it cheaply.

What the product pages say, and what to ignore

Afinil's listings are sales copy. A few claims on these two pages need a correction.

  • Modvigil and insomnia. The Modvigil page says it treats "insomnia" among other sleep disorders. That's wrong. Modafinil is a wake-promoting drug, and the US label lists insomnia as a common side effect, not a use. The approved uses are excessive sleepiness from narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea and shift work disorder.
  • "The same level of effectiveness." The Modapro page says it works just as well as Provigil. That has never been shown for this brand through any US approval process, so treat it as a claim.
  • "Safe and highly effective." Modapro's page uses this phrase. Safety depends on the person, which is why the US label lists warnings and why a prescriber should be involved.
  • "OTC" and "without a prescription." Both pages use this language. In the US, modafinil is a Schedule IV controlled substance and needs a prescription.
  • Cognitive claims. Both pages describe boosts to focus, memory or creativity from off-label use. The FDA label is about wakefulness in specific sleep conditions, so we'd set those lines aside.
  • "Today only" timers. A pop-up with a countdown offers a 24% discount and free pills. The same pop-up runs across the site, so there's no need to hurry.

The drug facts don't depend on the brand

Neither listing is a reliable source for how modafinil works or who should avoid it. The US prescribing information for Provigil is, and it applies to any tablet that really contains 200 mg of modafinil:

  • What it's approved for: the label covers adults with excessive sleepiness linked to narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea or shift work disorder. In sleep apnea it's meant to sit alongside airway treatment such as CPAP, never in place of it.
  • How it's usually taken: one 200 mg dose a day. People with narcolepsy or sleep apnea take it in the morning; people with shift work disorder take it roughly an hour before work starts. The right dose for you is your prescriber's call.
  • How long it lasts: with repeated use the label puts the half-life at around 15 hours, so a late dose can easily cut into sleep.
  • What the label warns about: uncommon but serious skin reactions and allergic reactions, plus psychiatric effects such as anxiety or mood changes. Any rash, chest pain or change in mood means stopping and getting medical advice. A prescriber should also go over your health history and current medicines before you begin.

So the name on the strip tells you who made the tablet and what the store charges. It doesn't change any of the points above.

Choosing between Modapro and Modvigil
The price is a tie, so these questions decide it

Which one fits you

Choose Modapro if

  • The maker's size and public record matter most to you. Cipla is a far larger and better-documented company than HAB.
  • You want a budget modafinil from a household name in Indian pharma, at the same price as Modvigil.
  • You plan to buy 500 tablets or fewer, since that's as large as Modapro goes.

Choose Modvigil if

  • You want more store history. Sixteen reviews averaging 4.9 is more to go on than two.
  • You'd like to try before you commit. The free sample listing lets you check the strips first.
  • You'd genuinely use a 1,000-pack, which brings the price down to $0.89 a tablet.
  • You're already on it under a prescription and it suits you. At the same price, there's nothing to gain from switching.

Look elsewhere if

  • You want a cheaper tablet still. These two are already at the bottom of Afinil's ladder for branded 200 mg modafinil, so lower prices mean coupons or payment discounts rather than another brand. Our coupon page tracks the ones we've verified.
  • You'd rather have a long-established premium brand. Modalert costs more but has years of history; see our Modapro vs Modalert comparison and Modvigil vs Modalert breakdown.
  • You want a fully legal US supply. A prescription filled at a licensed US pharmacy gets you FDA-approved generic modafinil, often with insurance. Our guide to getting a modafinil prescription online covers how telehealth fits in.

A cost example (illustration only)

Imagine someone with a prescription who uses one tablet on about five days a week, roughly 250 tablets a year. A 300-pack of either brand costs $399 and would cover a little over a year. Buying a 500-pack instead ($499) for two years of use would save about $300 over buying two 300-packs, but only if the expiry date on the strips allows for two years. Paying with crypto could knock 24% off the list price, though crypto payments are hard to reverse if something goes wrong; our Bitcoin payment guide explains the trade-off.

These are rough sums from the November 1 list prices. Real totals depend on shipping, discounts and how much you actually use.

A sensible first order

For readers with a prescription who want to try one of these two brands, here's how we'd approach it:

  1. Keep the first purchase cheap. Either brand costs $29 for a 10-pack. If you qualify for a free Modvigil sample, that's an even lower-risk way to see the packaging.
  2. Look over every strip. You should be able to read the brand, the strength (modafinil 200 mg), Cipla or HAB as the maker, a batch code and an expiry date. If any of that is missing or looks inconsistent, raise it with the store and don't take the tablets until it's sorted.
  3. Let the expiry date set the pack size. Savings per tablet shrink beyond 100, and a bulk pack you can't finish in date isn't a saving at all.
  4. Weigh tracked against untracked. Airmail costs less, but with no tracking you're relying on the store's reshipment promise if the parcel never shows. Our reshipment policy explainer sets out what Afinil asks for.
  5. Store tablets in their strips, somewhere cool and dry and out of children's reach.

Store terms that cover both brands

Modapro and Modvigil are sold under identical store policies. Afinil advertises same-day dispatch for orders in by 5 pm Pacific, a 30-day guarantee and a free reshipment if an order goes missing. Parcels are described as discreet, with nothing on the outside naming the store. Afinil also says it fills in a customs declaration and describes the contents as "health supplements". Calling them that doesn't alter what's actually in the box, and it doesn't stop US customs from holding a parcel. The footer line saying imports are "99.9% legal" is marketing copy and shouldn't be read as legal advice.

The legal side for US readers

Under federal law modafinil is a Schedule IV controlled substance. The legal way to get it is a valid prescription from a licensed US prescriber, filled through a lawful pharmacy. Modapro and Modvigil are not FDA-approved, and buying either from an overseas store without a prescription is not a legal shortcut, whatever the product page says. Customs can hold or seize such parcels. Our page on whether buying modafinil is legal lays out the details.

Verdict

Modapro vs Modvigil is a tie on price from 10 to 500 tablets, which makes it one of the easier comparisons on this site to settle by personal preference. Modapro gives you the much larger, better-known manufacturer. Modvigil gives you more store reviews, a free sample route, a combo option and the only 1,000-tablet pack. If you value the maker most, choose Modapro. If you want more buyer history and a cheap way to try first, choose Modvigil. Either way, start small, check the strips and keep a prescriber involved.

FAQ

Is Modapro the same as Modvigil?

Both are listed as 200 mg of modafinil per tablet, so the active drug and the strength match. They're made by different companies, Cipla for Modapro and HAB Pharma for Modvigil, so fillers, tablet look and packaging can differ.

Which is cheaper, Modapro or Modvigil?

Neither, up to 500 tablets. On November 1, 2026 Afinil charged $29 for 10, $169 for 100 and $499 for 500 for either brand. Only Modvigil had a 1,000-tablet pack, at $899, which works out at $0.89 a tablet.

Who makes Modapro?

Afinil's listing names Cipla Limited, one of India's largest drug companies. Cipla is a big, publicly listed manufacturer that also sells medicines in the US, although Modapro itself isn't an FDA-approved product.

Who makes Modvigil?

Afinil names HAB Pharma. Indian trade listings name HAB Pharmaceuticals & Research Ltd as the maker. HAB also makes Modawake and Artvigil, the armodafinil brand Afinil often pairs with Modvigil.

Is Modvigil stronger than Modapro?

Not on paper. Both are labelled 200 mg. We know of no study comparing these two brands, and reports of one feeling stronger are anecdotes that sleep, caffeine, timing and expectations can easily shape.

Can I try Modvigil for free?

Afinil lists a free Modvigil sample product and says every order includes free Modvigil and Artvigil samples. The store sets the conditions, so check them at checkout. We didn't find a free Modapro sample.

Is Modapro or Modvigil FDA-approved?

No. The FDA approved Provigil and US generic modafinil sold by licensed pharmacies. Modapro and Modvigil are Indian brands sold online, and neither holds US approval.

Do I need a prescription for Modapro or Modvigil in the US?

Yes. Modafinil is a federal Schedule IV controlled substance. Store wording such as "OTC" or "without a prescription" doesn't change that, and importing either brand without a valid prescription isn't a legal route.
