Two things stood out when we read both sites:

• Afinil's home page calls ModafinilXL (shortened to MXL) its "sister store".
• ModafinilXL's home page has an "Our Moda Stores" section listing sister storefronts, including ModafinilUSA, and describes itself as growing from India into the US and other markets.

So these aren't unrelated shops that happen to sell the same pills. They appear to share a lineage, promote the same house brands (ModaXL and ArmodaXL), and use similar policies. We can't see who owns what on paper, so "sister stores" is the fairest label.

What that means for you: the decision mostly comes down to price, shipping options and catalogue for your specific order, not to which one is "real".

Prices: closer than you'd think

On Afinil, many 200 mg modafinil brands (ModaXL, Modalert, Modavinil, Modafil MD) shared the same per-pill ladder when we checked: $3.99 each at 10 pills, falling to $1.09 each at 1,000 pills, with a $39 to $1,099 range. Modvigil and Artvigil started lower, at $29.

ModafinilXL's home page advertised generic modafinil "starting at $0.59 per pill" and a featured deal on 500 Modvigil pills for $499. Those "from" prices usually apply to the biggest packs or the cheapest brand, so they aren't directly comparable with a small first order.

Made-up example: you want 30 ModaXL 200 mg tablets and plan to pay by card. The honest way to compare is to put exactly that in both carts and look at the final total, including shipping. The store with the lower headline price might still come out higher once shipping is added if you're below its free-shipping threshold.

Crypto discounts

Both stores push crypto hard:

• Afinil: 24% off sitewide when you pay with Bitcoin or other listed crypto, applied automatically at checkout.
• ModafinilXL: 20% off when you pay with Bitcoin or altcoins, also automatic.

The extra four points at Afinil add up on bigger orders. But crypto payments have their own trade-offs: network fees, exchange spreads, price moves between buying the coin and paying, and the fact that a crypto payment can't be charged back like a card. Shipping and delivery

International shipping

Both ship internationally from India for most products, with tracking. Afinil's home page said customers should receive orders within seven business days; ModafinilXL said orders ship within two hours with tracking sent within 72 hours. Real delivery times vary a lot by country and customs.

Domestic options

This is the clearest practical difference:

• Afinil listed US domestic options for some products.
• ModafinilXL listed US domestic shipping by USPS Priority Mail for some products.

Free shipping thresholds

Afinil showed $130 on most of its pages, with one $180 banner. ModafinilXL showed $170. For small first orders, you'll likely pay shipping at either store; for mid-size orders, Afinil's lower threshold may tip the balance.

Free samples

Both advertise free samples. When we loaded ModafinilXL, its cart already contained free ModaXL 200 mg and ArmodaXL 150 mg samples. Afinil's home page said every order comes with 20 free modafinil and armodafinil tablets, and it runs a separate samples offer.

Beyond crypto, the two stores list slightly different ways to pay:

• Afinil listed Bitcoin, ETH and other cryptocurrencies, Visa, MasterCard, Amex, PayPal, Bill Pay, e-Check, Zelle, SEPA and Poli in various places on its site.
• ModafinilXL listed Visa, MasterCard and American Express, PayPal, Zelle, ACH, Bill Pay, bank transfers (IBAN and SEPA), stablecoins, altcoins and cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and ETH.

Card options at stores like these can come and go, because payment processors are often cautious about prescription medicines sold online. If a card payment fails, that's usually a processor issue rather than a problem with your card. Don't send money through a method the checkout page doesn't list, and be wary of anyone contacting you with "alternative" payment instructions.

A ten-minute price check you can do yourself

Rather than trust any comparison article, including this one, here's how to get a real answer for your order:

1. Decide the exact product, strength and pack size before you start.
2. Open both stores in separate tabs.
3. Add the same item to each cart.
4. Pick the same shipping region and method (international or domestic).

Afinil advertises 24/7 expert customer support. ModafinilXL points buyers to its help center and 24/7 support, under a "Helpful Humans" heading. We haven't timed responses at either, so we can't rank them. A practical tip: before you order, send a simple pre-sale question (for example, about shipping to your country) and see how quickly and clearly each one answers. That tells you a lot about how a problem would be handled later.

Store credit and loyalty

Afinil has a store-credit wallet you can top up and spend; see how Afinil store credit works. ModafinilXL advertised bonus pills and free samples for returning customers. Neither is a reason on its own to pick a store, but if you already hold credit at one, that settles it.

Catalogue differences

Both carry the core modafinil and armodafinil brands. ModafinilXL's product filter also listed a long list of other medicines, including ED drugs and others that have nothing to do with wakefulness. Afinil sells some non-modafinil products too, but leads with modafinil brands.

For a modafinil buyer, the catalogue difference rarely matters. If a specific brand or strength is out of stock at one store, it's worth checking the other.

Trust signals: what they mean and what they don't

Both stores show review widgets (Yotpo, Trustpilot and others), "trusted since" claims and big customer counts. ModafinilXL claims accreditation from the International Association of Licensed Online Pharmacies (IALOP).

Keep these in perspective:

• Review platforms show customer opinions about delivery and service. They don't test the tablets.
• Customer counts are the store's own figures.
• Private accreditations aren't government licences. Neither store is a US-licensed pharmacy dispensing on prescription.
• "FDA-approved generic" wording on store pages doesn't mean the FDA approved the Indian brands for sale in the US. It hasn't.

The legal reality at both stores

Both stores say you can order without a prescription. That's their policy, not US law:

• United States: modafinil and armodafinil are Schedule IV controlled substances, prescription-only. Importing without a prescription is illegal and parcels can be seized.
• Prescriptions: a Schedule IV prescription has to come from a DEA-registered prescriber, with at most five refills within six months.
• Domestic stock: a parcel shipped from inside the US doesn't change the law. Without a prescription it's still not a legal route.

Health first, store second

Whichever storefront you use, the medicine is the same. The Provigil label's standard dose is 200 mg once a day in the morning (or about an hour before a shift for shift work disorder), and the most common side effect in its trials was headache. Serious rash, allergic reactions and psychiatric symptoms are rare but are reasons to stop and get help. Hormonal birth control can be less effective during use and for a month after.

Made-up example: a US buyer wants 50 ModaXL tablets and pays with Bitcoin. Afinil's larger crypto discount and lower free-shipping threshold probably make it the cheaper pick. A US buyer who needs tablets within a few days would compare both stores' USPS domestic listings first.

Mistakes to avoid when comparing

• Comparing "from" prices. Compare the same product, same pack size, same payment method.
• Forgetting shipping. Below the free threshold, shipping can erase a price gap.
• Assuming domestic means legal. It means faster and no international customs, nothing more.
• Ordering a huge pack first. Small orders limit what you lose if something goes wrong or modafinil doesn't suit you.
