Modfil 200 mg Review: Is the Budget Brand Worth It?
Modfil 200 mg doesn't get talked about much. It's not a house brand like ModaXL, and it doesn't have the name recognition of Sun Pharma's Modalert. What it does have is a lower starting price. If you're watching your budget, that makes it worth a closer look, as long as you go in with clear eyes about what's known and what isn't.
This review is based on Afinil's Modfil product page (checked October 22, 2026) and the FDA label for Provigil, the brand-name modafinil. We haven't tested Modfil ourselves and won't pretend to have.
Modfil at a glance
- Active drug: modafinil
- Strength: 200 mg per tablet
- Maker: Psyco Remedies Ltd, India (per Afinil)
- Generic of: Provigil
- Listed price range at Afinil: $29 to $499
- Customer reviews on Afinil: four, rated 4.5 out of 5, when we checked
Who makes Modfil?
Afinil names Psyco Remedies Ltd as the manufacturer. It's a much less familiar name to modafinil buyers than Sun Pharma (Modalert), HAB Pharma (Modvigil), Centurion (Modavinil) or HOF (ModaXL, per Afinil). We didn't find independent reporting on the company's modafinil production that we could verify, so we won't make claims about its factories or standards either way.
What that means in practice: you're relying on the store's sourcing more than on the brand's reputation. That's not a reason to rule Modfil out, but it's a reason to start small and check the packaging carefully.
A claim to ignore
Afinil's Modfil page says Modfil "is a wake-promoting drug approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)". That's not correct. The FDA approved modafinil under the brand name Provigil (and later approved some generics made for the US market). Modfil, an Indian export brand, isn't an FDA-approved product. The active ingredient is the same as an approved drug; the product itself hasn't been through FDA review.
The same page also calls the tablets "OTC" and invites buyers to order "without prescription". In the US and many other countries that's not how the law works, as we explain below.
Listed prices
Modfil uses its own, cheaper ladder rather than Afinil's standard 200 mg pricing:
- 10 or 20 tablets: $2.99 each
- 30 tablets: $2.59 each
- 50 tablets: $1.99 each
- 100 tablets: $1.69 each
- 200 tablets: $1.39 each
- 300 tablets: $1.33 each
- 500 tablets: $0.99 each
Oddly, the 10- and 20-pill packs were listed at the same price per tablet, so the 20-pill pack offers no per-pill saving over 10. Afinil also advertised 24% off for crypto payments.
Modfil vs other 200 mg brands on price
For comparison, Afinil's standard ladder, used by ModaXL, Modalert, Modavinil and others, started at $3.99 per pill for 10 tablets and reached $1.99 at 100. At the 100-pill level, Modfil's $1.69 saves 30 cents a tablet, or about $30 per hundred. For a 10-pill first order, the saving is about $10.
Modvigil, the other budget favorite, also started at $29 for its smallest pack. If cost is your top priority, those two are the ones to compare. Our Modvigil vs Modalert comparison covers the budget-versus-premium question in more depth.
What Modfil is like to take
Because it's modafinil, Modfil should behave like other 200 mg modafinil tablets if its content matches the label. Here's what the Provigil label tells us about modafinil in general:
- Onset: peak blood levels come about two to four hours after a dose. Food can delay that by roughly an hour.
- Duration: the effective half-life is about 15 hours after repeated doses, which is why a late dose can ruin the night's sleep.
- What it treats: excessive sleepiness from narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea and shift work disorder.
User reports for modafinil generally describe steady alertness without the jittery spike of strong coffee, though plenty of people still get headaches or feel wired. With only four reviews on Afinil's page, we can't say anything meaningful about whether Modfil feels different from other brands. Treat any brand-to-brand "feel" claims, including the ones you'll find on forums, with caution.
Dosing on the label
The Provigil label recommends:
- Narcolepsy and obstructive sleep apnea: 200 mg once a day, in the morning.
- Shift work disorder: 200 mg about one hour before the shift begins.
Doses up to 400 mg a day were studied without consistent extra benefit over 200 mg. Afinil's Modfil page itself tells buyers never to take more than one pill a day. People with severe liver problems may need a lower dose, and older adults may be started lower too; that's a conversation for a doctor.
Side effects
Common side effects listed on Afinil's Modfil page include nausea, insomnia, dizziness, dry mouth and headache. That lines up with the Provigil label, where headache is the most frequent, followed by nausea, nervousness, a stuffy or runny nose, back pain, diarrhea, anxiety, trouble sleeping and dizziness.
The label's serious warnings apply to every modafinil brand:
- Skin reactions. Rare but potentially severe rashes have been reported. Any rash is a reason to stop and call a doctor.
- Allergic reactions, including swelling or trouble breathing.
- Psychiatric effects, such as anxiety, agitation, depression, mania or hallucinations.
- Heart symptoms, such as chest pain or palpitations.
Modafinil can also reduce how well hormonal contraceptives work, during treatment and for a month after. It can interact with a range of prescription medicines, so a pharmacist or doctor should check anything else you take. See our medical disclaimer.
Who Modfil suits
- Budget-minded buyers who want the cheapest per-pill price on a mid-size pack.
- People who've already used modafinil and know it agrees with them, and just want a lower cost.
- Anyone curious about a less common brand who's happy to start with 10 tablets.
Who should look elsewhere
- First-time modafinil users may prefer a better-reviewed brand for their first try, or Afinil's free samples, so they're judging the drug rather than an unfamiliar brand.
- Buyers who value a big-name maker should look at Modalert (Sun Pharma) or ModaXL. Our ModaXL 200 mg review covers Afinil's house brand.
- People who want more customer feedback before they buy. Four reviews is a thin sample.

Checking your Modfil order
With a lesser-known brand, checking what arrives matters more than usual:
- Read the strip. It should name Modfil, modafinil 200 mg and the maker.
- Check the batch number and expiry date. Both should be printed clearly; the expiry should be well in the future.
- Look at the tablets. They should be uniform in size, shape and color, and not crumbled.
- Compare with photos on the product page, bearing in mind packaging can change.
- If something looks wrong, don't take it. Contact the store and keep photos of the packaging.
Afinil's reshipment policy explains what's covered if a parcel goes missing.
Shipping and payment
Afinil's Modfil page mentioned free registered airmail on orders over $130 and free EMS over $180. A 10-pill pack at about $30 won't reach either, so shipping will add to the cost of a small trial. US buyers can also look at domestic USPS shipping, which is priced differently. For the crypto discount, see paying with bitcoin at Afinil.
Example math (illustrative, not a quote): if shipping on a small order were $39, a $30 Modfil pack would cost about $69 delivered, or almost $7 a tablet. The same shipping on a 100-pill pack ($169) is a much smaller share. That's why many buyers combine items to clear the free-shipping line, though we'd still rather you start small than buy more than you'll use.
Legal notes
Modafinil is a Schedule IV controlled substance in the US. It's legal with a prescription; buying it without one is not, and importing it can lead to parcels being seized. The store's "OTC" label doesn't change any of that. For the legal path, read our guide to getting a prescription through an online doctor, and see our legal notes.
Questions to ask before buying any budget brand
Cheaper isn't automatically worse, but it pays to think it through:
- Is the saving meaningful for me? On a 10-pill pack, Modfil saves about $10 against standard-ladder brands. On a few hundred tablets, it's much more.
- How will I know if it's working as it should? If you've taken another brand before, you have a reference point. If not, you're judging the drug and the brand at the same time.
- What's my plan if I don't get on with it? Small packs make switching cheap.
- Has my doctor checked my other medicines? Modafinil interacts with several common drugs, and that's true whichever brand you buy.
Why so few reviews matters
A 4.5-star average sounds good, but it comes from four customers. One unhappy buyer could pull it down sharply, and four happy ones don't prove every batch is consistent. Reviews on a store's own site also tend to skew positive, since the store controls the page. For comparison, the best-known brands on Afinil carry far more reviews, which at least gives a broader picture of delivery and packaging experiences.
None of that tells you whether Modfil is good or bad. It tells you the evidence is thin, which is another reason a small first order makes sense. If you do try it, a short, honest review on the product page helps the next buyer.
Modfil for shift workers
Shift work disorder is one of the conditions modafinil is approved for, and it's where timing matters most. The label dose is 200 mg about an hour before the shift. Because modafinil lasts a long time, taking it partway through a night shift can make it hard to sleep once you get home. If you work shifts, ask your doctor to help you plan dose timing around your sleep window, whichever brand you use.
Storage
Keep tablets in their original strips, at room temperature, away from moisture and out of reach of children. Don't move them into pill boxes for long periods, because you lose the batch number and expiry date printed on the strip.
Verdict
Modfil 200 mg is a genuine budget option: at $1.69 per tablet for 100, it undercuts Afinil's standard ladder, and its 10-pill pack starts at about $30. The trade-offs are a little-known maker, very few reviews and a product page with at least one inaccurate claim. If you already know modafinil suits you and want to save money, a small Modfil pack is a reasonable experiment. If it's your first time, start with a better-known brand or free samples, talk to your doctor, and keep doses to one tablet early in the day.
FAQ
Who makes Modfil 200 mg?
Afinil's product page names Psyco Remedies Ltd, an Indian manufacturer, as the maker. Modfil is sold as a generic version of Provigil.
How much is Modfil at Afinil?
On October 22, 2026, Afinil listed Modfil from $29 to $499: $2.99 per pill for 10 or 20, falling to $1.69 at 100 and $0.99 at 500. Check the cart for current prices.
Is Modfil cheaper than ModaXL or Modalert?
At most pack sizes, yes. Those brands started at $3.99 per pill for 10 tablets when we checked, against $2.99 for Modfil. Modvigil, another budget brand, also started at $29.
Is Modfil FDA approved?
No. Afinil's page says Modfil is FDA approved, but that's not accurate. The FDA approved modafinil as the brand Provigil. Modfil is an Indian generic that isn't approved in the US.
Is Modfil as strong as other brands?
Each tablet is labeled 200 mg of modafinil, the same as ModaXL, Modalert and Modvigil. We know of no independent lab test of Modfil, so we can't confirm its actual content.
How should Modfil be taken?
The Provigil label dose is 200 mg once a day, in the morning for narcolepsy or sleep apnea, or about an hour before a shift for shift work disorder. Afinil's page also says never more than one pill a day.
How many reviews does Modfil have?
Afinil's page showed only four customer reviews when we checked, far fewer than its best-known brands. That makes it hard to judge consistency.
Do I need a prescription for Modfil?
In the US modafinil is Schedule IV and needs a prescription. Afinil's "OTC" wording doesn't change local law.
What's the best first order?
A 10-pill pack. At $2.99 per pill it's about $30, enough to learn whether modafinil suits you without committing to a big pack.
Does Modfil come with free shipping?
Afinil's page said free registered airmail on orders over $130 and free EMS over $180. A small Modfil order won't reach either on its own.
