Power Duo ModaXL Review: What You Get in a 250 mg Combo Tablet
Most modafinil products on Afinil are simple: one brand, one active ingredient, one strength. Power Duo ModaXL breaks that pattern. Each tablet is listed as containing both modafinil (200 mg) and armodafinil (50 mg), and the store sells it as a "250 mg" tablet. If you have searched for a Power Duo review and found mostly the vendor's own page, that's because there isn't much else out there.
This review is based on Afinil's Power Duo ModaXL listing as it appeared on October 31, 2026, Afinil's general shipping and payment pages, and the US prescribing information for Provigil (modafinil) and Nuvigil (armodafinil). We haven't run a lab test on these tablets and we haven't taken them ourselves, so you won't find any "we tried it for a week" claims here. Where the listing makes a claim we can't check, we say so.

What "250 mg" actually means here
The number on the box is a sum, not a single drug. You get the full 200 mg of modafinil you'd find in a standard ModaXL tablet, plus 50 mg of armodafinil on top.
That matters because of how the two drugs relate. Modafinil is a racemic mixture, meaning it's a 50/50 blend of two mirror-image forms of the same molecule, called the R and S forms. Armodafinil is the R form on its own. The Nuvigil label describes armodafinil as the R-enantiomer of modafinil, and the Provigil label notes that the R form is cleared from the body more slowly than the S form, which is why armodafinil is often described as longer-lasting at a lower milligram dose.
So a quick piece of math, with the caveat that it's simplified and ignores how each form is absorbed and cleared:
- 200 mg of modafinil contains roughly 100 mg of the R form and 100 mg of the S form.
- Adding 50 mg of armodafinil adds 50 mg more of the R form.
- That's roughly 150 mg of the R form and 100 mg of the S form in one tablet.
In plain terms, Power Duo is a standard 200 mg modafinil tablet with extra of the longer-acting half mixed in. It's not a new drug and it's not a different mechanism. It's more of the same drug family in one pill.
Why more isn't automatically better
Afinil's listing describes the combination as "dual-action" and says it offers "superior cognitive performance". Those are marketing phrases, not findings from a published study of this tablet. We found no clinical trial of a modafinil-plus-armodafinil combination tablet.
What we do have is the official labeling for each ingredient:
- Provigil (modafinil): the recommended dose for narcolepsy and obstructive sleep apnea is 200 mg once a day. The label says doses up to 400 mg a day have been well tolerated, but there is no consistent evidence that they add benefit beyond 200 mg.
- Nuvigil (armodafinil): the label lists 150 mg or 250 mg once a day for obstructive sleep apnea and narcolepsy, and says there is no consistent evidence that 250 mg adds benefit over 150 mg for those conditions.
Neither label covers taking the two drugs together. Because they are versions of the same molecule, taking them together is best thought of as a higher total dose, and the labels' advice about side effects at higher doses applies. If a prescriber has put you on a specific dose, a combination tablet can make it harder to hit that dose exactly.
Who makes Power Duo ModaXL?
Afinil's "Additional information" table names HOF Pharmaceuticals as the manufacturer, the same name it gives for ModaXL, ArmodaXL, ModaXL 300 and ModaXL 400. The listing says the store sources its products "directly from trusted manufacturers from India".
What we couldn't find is any independent information about the Power Duo product itself: no regulator listing, no published certificate of analysis, and no third-party lab result. That doesn't mean the tablets are bad. It means you are relying on the vendor's word, which is a bigger leap for a product with no review history than for a long-selling brand.
Listed prices
Here's the price ladder Afinil showed on October 31, 2026. The totals are our arithmetic from the per-tablet prices; the checkout is what counts.
| Pack size | Per tablet | Example total |
|---|---|---|
| 10 tablets | $3.99 | about $39.90 |
| 20 tablets | $3.49 | about $69.80 |
| 30 tablets | $2.99 | about $89.70 |
| 50 tablets | $2.59 | about $129.50 |
| 100 tablets | $2.39 | about $239 |
| 200 tablets | $2.19 | about $438 |
| 300 tablets | $1.99 | about $597 |
| 500 tablets | $1.79 | about $895 |
| 1,000 tablets | $1.09 | about $1,090 |
The page headline gives the range as $39 to $1,099, which lines up with the 10-pack and 1,000-pack within a few cents.
How that compares with plain ModaXL
Afinil's ModaXL 200 mg listing on the same day had identical prices at 10, 20 and 30 tablets ($3.99, $3.49 and $2.99). After that ModaXL drops faster: $2.39 at 50, $1.99 at 100, $1.69 at 200, $1.66 at 300 and $1.59 at 500, against Power Duo's $2.59, $2.39, $2.19, $1.99 and $1.79. Both were $1.09 at 1,000. So in the middle sizes most people buy, Power Duo costs 20 to 50 cents more per tablet. Our ModaXL 200 mg review covers the plain tablet in more detail. You're paying extra for the added 50 mg of armodafinil.
Discounts the store lists
- Crypto payments: Afinil advertises 24% off when you pay with Bitcoin or other crypto, with no code needed.
- Coupon: the listing mentions a $10-off code for any order.
- Free shipping thresholds: the page says free Registered Airmail over $130 and free EMS express over $180. US domestic shipping has its own pricing and is listed as free over $350.
- Free samples: Afinil says every order includes 20 free Modvigil and Artvigil sample tablets.
Note the store's exit pop-up shows a countdown timer and "One Day Only!" wording for a discount the same page calls an offer that "never expires". Ignore the timer. There's no reason to rush.
Who Power Duo might suit
Being straight about it, this is a niche product. It could make sense for:
- Someone whose prescriber has recommended a total daily amount close to what this tablet contains and who wants one tablet instead of two. That's a conversation to have with the prescriber first, not a decision to make from a product page.
- Buyers who already know they tolerate both modafinil and armodafinil well and are curious about the combination, ideally starting with the smallest 10-tablet pack.
Who should look elsewhere
- First-time users. If you have never taken modafinil, a combination tablet with a higher total dose is not the place to start. Afinil's free trial packs or a small pack of a single 200 mg brand are lower-risk ways to learn how you respond.
- People who want the lowest price per dose. Plain ModaXL or a budget brand is cheaper per tablet at most pack sizes.
- Anyone on a set prescribed dose. The fixed 200 + 50 split doesn't let you adjust either ingredient.
- Buyers who want an established track record. Zero store reviews and no independent data is a thin base for a big order.
Dosing on the listing vs the official labels
Afinil's page says the "typical starting dose" is one 250 mg tablet a day: in the morning for narcolepsy or sleep apnea, about an hour before a shift for shift work disorder. It also says to swallow the tablet whole with water and not to chew or crush it.
The official labels are more conservative about the single-ingredient products. Provigil's standard dose is 200 mg a day, and Nuvigil's is 150 to 250 mg depending on the condition. For shift work disorder, both labels say to take the dose about one hour before the shift starts. Neither label includes a combined dose. Your prescriber's instructions come first.
Side effects
The Power Duo listing mentions headache, nausea, dizziness and dry mouth as possible milder effects. The Provigil and Nuvigil labels list headache, nausea, nervousness, insomnia, dizziness and anxiety among their more common reported side effects, along with rare but serious warnings about skin rashes, allergic reactions and psychiatric symptoms. The labels say to stop the drug and get medical help if a rash appears.
Because Power Duo delivers more total drug than a standard 200 mg tablet, it's reasonable to expect side effects to be at least as likely, not less. Talk to a doctor or pharmacist about your own health history and any other medicines you take before using any modafinil product.
Shipping and payment
Afinil's site lists these shipping options:
- US domestic (USPS Priority Mail): 3 to 4 days, with its own pricing
- EMS express with tracking: 7 to 12 business days, signature required
- Registered Airmail: 10 to 18 business days, no tracking
The site says orders arrive in discreet packaging and that orders over 360 tablets are split into multiple parcels. It also says lost parcels are reshipped free. Afinil lists credit and debit cards, PayPal, Zelle and crypto among its payment options. Our reshipment policy explainer covers what happens if a parcel goes missing.
Legal notes for US buyers
In the US, modafinil and armodafinil are Schedule IV controlled substances and need a valid prescription. Power Duo ModaXL is not FDA-approved, and no combined modafinil and armodafinil tablet is. Afinil's page title calls the product "Over-the-Counter" and the text says no prescription is required. Those statements don't reflect US law. Importing a controlled substance without a prescription isn't a legal route, and US customs can seize parcels.
If you have a prescription, a US pharmacy can fill FDA-approved generic modafinil or armodafinil, and that's the straightforward option. Our Is buying modafinil legal? guide has the details.
Checking your order when it arrives
- Look at the strip: it should name the product, both ingredients and their strengths, the maker, a batch number and an expiry date.
- Compare the tablet's markings with the strip. If anything doesn't match, contact the seller before taking any.
- Keep the tablets in their original foil at room temperature, away from children.
Verdict
Power Duo ModaXL is a regular 200 mg modafinil tablet with 50 mg of armodafinil added, from the same maker Afinil names for ModaXL. The idea is simple, but the evidence is thin: no clinical data on the combination, no store reviews, no independent lab results, and a higher price per tablet than plain ModaXL at most pack sizes. If your prescriber is comfortable with the total dose and you already know you tolerate both drugs, the 10-tablet pack is a low-cost way to see whether it suits you. For everyone else, a single-ingredient 200 mg modafinil or 150 mg armodafinil tablet is the simpler, cheaper and better-documented choice.

FAQ
What is Power Duo ModaXL?
A single tablet that Afinil lists as 200 mg modafinil plus 50 mg armodafinil, sold as "Power Duo ModaXL 250 mg" and credited to HOF Pharmaceuticals, the same maker Afinil names for ModaXL.
Is Power Duo ModaXL FDA-approved?
No. The FDA has approved modafinil (Provigil and generics) and armodafinil (Nuvigil and generics) as separate single-ingredient tablets. No combined modafinil-plus-armodafinil tablet is FDA-approved.
How much does Power Duo ModaXL cost?
On October 31, 2026, Afinil listed it from $3.99 a tablet for 10 down to $1.09 a tablet for 1,000. The 100-pack was $2.39 a tablet. Prices change, so check the live page.
Is Power Duo stronger than regular ModaXL?
It contains more drug per tablet. Modafinil is a 50/50 mix of two mirror-image forms, and armodafinil is one of them, so the extra 50 mg adds to the longer-acting form. More drug is not the same as more benefit, and the Provigil label found no consistent extra benefit above 200 mg a day.
Do I need a prescription for Power Duo ModaXL in the US?
Yes. Modafinil and armodafinil are both Schedule IV controlled substances in the US. Afinil's page title says "Over-the-Counter" and its text says no prescription is required, but that doesn't change US law.
Can I split a Power Duo tablet?
Afinil's own directions say to swallow it whole and not chew or crush it. Ask a pharmacist before splitting any tablet, and ask your prescriber what dose you should be on in the first place.
Are there customer reviews for Power Duo ModaXL?
Not on Afinil. The product page showed 0 reviews on October 31, 2026, and we found no independent lab testing of this tablet.
Is Power Duo cheaper than buying ModaXL and ArmodaXL separately?
Not per tablet at small sizes. At 10, 20 and 30 tablets it lists at the same per-tablet price as regular ModaXL ($3.99, $3.49 and $2.99), and from 50 to 500 tablets it costs more per tablet than ModaXL. At 1,000 both were $1.09. Compare the per-tablet price at the size you'd actually buy.
